Texas A&M has dismissed wide receiver Kirk Merritt from the team after a highly publicized incident in which he was accused of exposing himself to two different women, according to a report by the Bryan Eagle.

Merritt, a sophomore, leaves the team without ever having played for the Aggies. He sat out last season after transferring from Oregon.

Earlier this month, Merritt pleaded guilty to two counts of indecent exposure. He was accused of exposing and touching himself "while sitting in arm's reach" of one female academic tutor and pulling his shorts down and holding himself "while sitting in arm's reach" of another.

Merritt's attorney, Rick Davis, released a statement earlier this month to the Houston Chronicle, blaming the incidents on "a bad case of jock itch."

"While Kirk is very embarrassed about this situation, and has apologized to the two tutors that he offended, he did not intend to gratify anyone by exposing himself," Davis wrote in a statement to the Houston Chronicle. "The fact is that Kirk had a bad case of jock itch. The statute Kirk has been accused of violating requires that the Defendant have an intent to arouse or gratify the sexual desire of any person and that the Defendant is reckless about whether another may be present who will be offended or alarmed by his conduct."

Merritt was a 4-star recruit out of Destrehan (La.) High School in 2015. He caught five passes for 61 yards as a true freshman at Oregon before transferring to Texas A&M.
