We are looking at as many as five first team all conference selections. Not bad.

Pursley, Quinn, X Jones, and another secondary player will show up on the list at the end of the season.

This is fun to predict/play with. Here's my take:

OFFENSE:
1st Team

X Jones (if can stay healthy)
Courtland
Evan Brown
Quinn

2nd Team
Pursley (possibly even first team)

3rd Team
whomever our QB will be, would be awesome if also Proche :-)

DEFENSE
1st Team
Lawler
Wyatt (that would be an awesome sign)

2nd Team
Gary (would be an awesome sign)

3rd Team
somebody else :-) Onu?

REALLY hope young guys like McQueen and Spears and McLaurin can step up and be players.

From SMUMustangs.com:

Seven Mustangs Named Athlon All-AAC Preseason Selections

DALLAS (SMU) – Seven SMU football players were honored as 2017 Athlon Sports All-American Athletic Conference preseason selections, the organization announce. Among those honored, Evan Brown, Courtland Sutton, Braeden West and Justin Lawler earned first-team accolades.

Sutton leads a trio of Mustangs on the offensive first team after a standout sophomore season. The junior-to-be was a first-team all-conference selection in 2016, and was named to both the Biletnikoff Award and Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award preseason watch lists. Sutton set SMU's single-game record for receiving yards (252), as well as the sophomore record for receiving yards in a season (1,246). In 12 games, the wide receiver led the team in receptions (76), receiving yards (1,246) and receiving touchdowns (10). Sutton finished among the nation's top-20 in receiving yards per game, receiving yards and receptions per game.

First-team offensive selection Brown, who started at center all 12 games for the Mustangs in 2016, was named to the Rimington Trophy Watch List for the second straight season. Overall, Brown has started 34 games in three seasons on the Hilltop and is making his second appearance on the Athlon Sports All-AAC preseason squad.

West played in 12 games for the Mustangs in 2016, starting eight, and finished with 1,128 all-purpose yards. He led the team with 1,036 yards on 202 carries with six touchdowns, and had 15 receptions for 92 yards. His 1,036 rushing yards rank 14th on SMU's single-season list.

Quarterback Ben Hicks rounded out the offensive selections as a fourth-team honoree. A Campus Insiders Freshman All-America Honorable Mention selection, Hicks amassed 2,930 passing yards and 19 passing touchdowns, which rank eighth and tied for seventh, respectively, on SMU's single-season lists. Hicks started 11 of 12 games, posting three 300-yard passing performances.

On the defensive side, Lawler led three selections and earned first-team accolades. A 2016 first-team All-AAC selection, Lawler started all 12 games and anchored a Mustang defense that ranked fifth in The American in tackles for loss (15) and tied for sixth in sacks (6.0). Lawler finished second on the team with 65 tackles, had seven quarterback hurries and added a pair of blocked field goals.

Defensive back Jordan Wyatt, a second-team selection, started all 12 games last season and led the conference in forced fumbles with four. Wyatt was third on the team, and tied for third in The American, with four interceptions, and was one of only nine players in the country to register multiple interceptions returned for a touchdown. He also finished the season fifth on the team with 50 tackles.

Kyran Mitchell, who was selected to the outlet's defensive fourth team, started all 12 games in 2016 at linebacker and led the team in tackles with 67. He was tied for second in quarterback hurries (3), tied for third in tackles for loss (6.0) and was fourth with 3.5 sacks.

SMU opens the 2017 season on Sept. 2 against Stephen F. Austin at Ford Stadium. The Mustangs' home slate features seven games including 2016 bowl teams Tulsa, UCF, Arkansas State and North Texas. Also visiting the Hilltop will be American Athletic Conference foes Tulane and Connecticut. Season tickets are still available for as little as $99. For Mustang ticket information, call the Athletics Department Ticket Office at (214) SMU-GAME (768-4263).

Isn't this the magazine that said SMU 5th in division and 6-6 overall?

I wanna win a lot of games, certainly a lot more than 6.
