Mustangs Continue Preseason Practice
First Scrimmage Set For This Saturday
DALLAS, TEXAS -- The SMU football team continued preseason workouts today
with a two-hour workout in shells at the SMU Practice Fields. The Mustangs
worked on fundamentals for the majority of the workout but did conducted
11-on-11 drills for about 15 minutes of the practice.
Offensive highlights from the 11-on-11 segment included a long touchdown
catch by Jay Taylor from Richard Bartel and a diving reception by Billy
Ford. Defensively, Vic Viloria stood out, recovering a fumble and making two
stops behind the line of scrimmage.
"I continue to be impressed with our enthusiasm and intensity," said SMU
head coach Mike Cavan. "The guys have come prepared to work every day. That
is very encouraging."
SMU will resume two-a-day workouts on Monday with practices at 9:30 a.m. and
3:40 p.m. The Mustangs are scheduled to don full pads for the first time on
Tuesday. All Mustang practices are open to the public.
The SMU athletic department will hold an open house of Gerald J. Ford
Stadium this Saturday from 3-7 p.m. in conjunction with the Mustangs' first
scrimmage of the fall. Season and single game tickets will be on sale during
the open house and the scrimmage will begin at 7:00 p.m.
