I missed this, I assume that maybe he felt like he was going to get even less targets this season. A shame bc he was talented and seemed to come on last year, but since this is our deepest position not too worried. Hope he finishes up school/his career somewhere else.

Heard it was not about playing time, but something more serious (still undisclosed).

Great player on a great trajectory. Has nothing to do with targets or playing time or competition.

Time for Thomas to finally step up, or Benson to jump in there. Walker still there, but still 160 lbs.

If we were going to lose a key contributor, it might have well as been at WR, where we have plenty of talent.

The majority of P5 programs probably wish they could roll out a starting WR trio of Sutton, Quinn, and Proche next year. Behind them, I'm hoping Kevin Thomas and Honey can put it all together this year. Brandon Benson will be a pleasant surprise. We know what we're getting with Walker. Not sure what to expect from Shelmire as a redshirt freshman.

Texas Tech adds receiver Xavier Castille from SMU

by Alex Chippin 12h ago

After two seasons with SMU, wide receiver Xavier Castille has transferred to Texas Tech and is listed on the team's updated roster page.

Castille won't play this year due to transfer regulations for undergraduate students, but will be eligible to play two seasons for the Big 12 program upon his reinstatement.

The Rockwall, Texas native hauled in 40 receptions for 423 yards and a touchdown last season, and should give the Red Raiders a solid layer of receiving depth in 2018. Texas Tech lost three wideouts to transfers this offseason, including top weapon Jonathan Giles.

Castille's departure from SMU flew under the rader, as the Mustangs declined to confirm his exit when rumors surfaced in early June that he had left the program.

Kind of nice to see players transfer out to teams in the power conferences.
We might be better than people think we are.

Some people like flat barren Earth and Big12 Football. To each their own and best of luck.

We have plenty of very talented WRs. As Chad (who has been around some very talented groups at Clemson) says, our group is as good as anyone's in college football.

I agree with BUS in that in the past our players left for rock bands or red playing fields. Now one leaves for a P5 school. Shows our talent has improved.

Agreed. Ucf just lost a kicker to make YouTube videos so could be much worse. Best of luck to Castille

Or leave SMU and end up in a national championship game. (Gehrig Dieter)
Although if memory serves me correctly he dropped a 3rd down pass in that game...but still.

How did the band do that Kelan Luker ditch an SMU scholarship for?

The band released two full length records and seemed to have some success. I guess a guy with Creed was enough of a draw to compel him to leave SMU.

In late 2000s, he played at Tarleton State with a couple years of eligibility left.
In 2013, he was a high school QB coach in Florida.
In 2014, he was added to the Magnolia HS staff in the Houston area. Currently listed as
Co-Offensive Coordinator/Freshman Boys Basketball

He works for UH and Stephenville-ex Sterling Doty.

Not a bad life for either Stephenville ex. Luker has SMU prominently on his LinkedIn profile. :)

I do like how his wiki bio is:

Kelan Luker (born December 18, 1980) is a former American football player and rock musician and a current American football coach. He played at the quarterback position for Southern Methodist University and at the bass guitar position for the band Submersed.
