Watching SportsDays "SMU's best 10 football games thus far this decade," I had forgotten how important McDermott was to the team. He quarterbacked at least two of those wins: against TCU in 2010 and against Pitt in 2011 (bowl game). (I was at both games.) McDermott doesn't seem to get much attention from us. As I recall he was a transfer from NM State. (?) Not that he warrants consideration for Top 5 All Time, but he was a good, solid competitor.

Hard to compare QBs from different eras because of changes in offense, substitution rules, and even the football. I sure agree with those who named Benners, Hixson, and Bobby Wilson and I suspect that some player from the 20's when the "Aerial Circus" was on the field should be mentioned also.

Fact checking for this note I found that Fred Benners just celebrated his 87th birthday. Many happy returns, sir!

Livingston is a fine guy but, being a backup, he only played a few games at QB. I believe he was also a reserve halfback at the same time.

Hixson is an obvious choice.

This is a good place to mention John Roach's name. he was a pretty fair signal caller for the Ponies in the 1950s. Mike Ford was pretty good too.
