Sutton Named College Football News Preseason First-Team All-American

DALLAS (SMU) – Junior wide receiver Courtland Sutton added College Football News First-Team All-America honors to his list of preseason accolades for the 2017 season this week. Sutton has previously been tabbed second-team All-American and pre-season All-AAC by Athlon, the No. 18 College Football "Freak", the No. 28 player overall by Sports Illustrated and the No. 11 player overall in the state by Texas Football, among other honors.

Sutton is also listed as the CFN's No. 2 wide receiver overall and is No. 30 on their Top 50 players list.

During the 2016 season, Sutton set single-game school records for receiving yards (252) on a career-high 13 receptions against USF, and set the sophomore season record with 1,246 receiving yards. The Brenham, Texas, native paced SMU in receptions (76), receiving touchdowns (10) and receiving yards, ranking among the nation's top 20 in receiving yards per game (12th), receiving yards (19th) and receptions per game (20th).

His 1,000+ yards made him just the ninth Mustang receiver to amass that total in a season, and ranks him third on the program list. Sutton currently ranks ninth in school history with 2,135 receiving yards and sixth with 19.

Sutton was also named a preseason All-America and first-team All-American Athletic Conference selection by Athlon Sports. In 2016, he earned first-team All-AAC honors, becoming the first Mustang receiver to do so since Cole Beasley in 2011, and earned a spot on both the Biletnikoff Award and Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award preseason watch lists.

SMU opens the 2017 season on Sept. 2 against Stephen F. Austin at Ford Stadium. The Mustangs' home slate features seven games including 2016 bowl teams Tulsa, UCF, Arkansas State and North Texas. Also visiting the Hilltop will be American Athletic Conference foes Tulane and Connecticut. Season tickets are still available for as little as $99. For Mustang ticket information, call the Athletics Department Ticket Office at (214) SMU-GAME (768-4263).

No idea how long they have done preseason but I can't imagine there would have been any since Dickerson.
