College Football News has named Sutton a preseason first-team All-American, and selected him to their All-AAC Offensive team as well as the No. 3 player on its Top 30 AAC list. Sutton was selected as a second-team All-American and first-team All-AAC selection by Athlon Sports, while earning preseason accolades from Sports Illustrated, Dave Campbell's Texas Football and College Football 24/7 as well.

The 2017 award will be presented live on Dec. 7 on ESPN as part of The Home Depot College Football Awards Show at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT. Ten semifinalists for the award will be announced Nov. 3, while the list will be narrowed down to three on Nov. 21.
