no surprise there, but it sure would be nice to become this year's surprise team.

Some thoughts on this

1.) Texas at 23 is outrageous

2.) 5 big 12 teams in the top 25 is patently absurd. Are we sure the Big 12 is better that the American? Last year, they certainly were not.

Texas will be good this year. The B12 would power bomb the AAC through a table. I think you've been reading too many Aresco articles.

It is a COACHES poll, so I'm not surprised to see Texas and South Florida so high. A little surprised by Memphis (yes I know they've been ranked the last few years), Tulsa (yes I know they will be good) and Temple getting votes though.

Anyway, shock the world!

Well, then let them play us for the "sure" win and we'll find out, the cowards! Picking on poor ole Rice. I would love to see us get Baylor back on the schedule.

What do you consider good? I bet they finish below (substantially so) where they start in the rankings.

I honestly think the American was better than the Big 12 last year. Their best team lost at home to central michigan, OU got blasted by Houston, Texas was awful , Baylor was awful, TCU was way down, etc. etc.

Were OU, OSU, WVA, Kansas St., TCU, Texas tech really better than USF, Temple, Navy, Memphis, Tulsa, Houston?

I don't think so.

Texas ranked higher than TCU, Memphis, Houston and USF is laughable.

Texas now has Herman........so it's a whole new ballgame in the State of TX. He'll recruit better than everybody. The Big12 is up for grabs really, with no particularly dominant teams.

Wouldn't be surprised at all if they do very, very well right away. Should start 2-0 and then go on the road to face a Top 5 USC team in a game that will get huge national attention. He wins that one and they'll build him a statue in Austin after game 3.

DL looks like the biggest question mark.

Yes, because what was holding Texas back was little-man macho motivational ploys. Watch out!

Texas trampling over Oklahoma jerseys on the floor will definitely make all the difference.

I think 23 is about right for UT. They are sitting on about 3 potential All-Americans and are loaded at the WR position. I can see them upsetting USC in LA this fall. I don't pretend to know what happened under Strong but if they simply beat the teams they are supposed to they are looking at about an 8 win season.

But yeah, I'm not surprised we don't have any votes. I expect this to change next year at this time.

EDIT: Added the 'not' in the line above.

you must play teams that are respected to get votes. Instead we play schools like sisters of the poor, south texas school for the blind and north texas nothing. Not to worry- we just might have a winning season and then our coach can get more money by going to a P5 school.

Texas would have won at least 8 wins the last three seasons if Charlie Strong was even an average head coach. They have enough talent to win 10 games this year if they play well.

Oklahoma was the best team in the Big 12 last year. Didn't lose a conference game. And they did not play Central Michigan.
