Jets’ $24M solution explains why he was a Coughlin castoff
By Brian Costello August 6, 2017

For 10 years, the Jets never had to think about who was playing left tackle. D’Brickashaw Ferguson was a rock at the position from 2006-15, never missing a practice, never mind a game.

When Ferguson retired in April 2016, that run ended and the position became a problem. They traded for Ryan Clady from the Broncos, but he was not the player from his prime and suffered a season-ending shoulder injury. The Jets declined to pick up his option, and he retired recently. Ben Ijalana was a decent fill-in last year, but not the long-term answer at the position.

That led the Jets to Kelvin Beachum, whom they signed to a three-year, $24 million contract in March, to try to fill the void.
