I don't know the circumstances behind that picture, but that looks like a remarkable number of empty seats. That game is listed on wikipedia as the stadium record for attendance, and I remember being cold, and so smashed in to your seats you could not sit down. Easily the most crowded I have ever seen Ford.

Edit I'm told by my wife it wasn't cold. It was warmer than normal that day. Memory isn't what it used to be.

Outside of not winning that was a good day....although I much preferred traveling to a real bowl game in Birmingham and beating down Pitt. I want a shot at a P5 team wherever we play.

I really hope if it's between Frisco and Hawaii, we would get Frisco. Not super exciting but at exciting at all but neither is Hawaii. I would love to have home field advantage, easy commute and a much better date to watch. Seriously, I hope Hawaii bowl closes down and never opens again!

I'd rather play the best opponent from the best conference possible-have no desire to ever play any Sun Belt team, Middle Tennessee or Western Kentucky or a New Mexico St in a Bowl that nobody will ever watch-EVER.

yeah but the Liberty Bowl is not affiliated with the AAC. Birmingham has affiliation with SEC/AAC. Actually it looks like there is a secondary affiliation so I guess its possible

American Athletic Bowl Ties
The American Athletic Conference doesn’t have a true pecking order. The bowl matchups are based on best possible games and geography.
– AutoNation Cure Bowl vs. Sun Belt
– Boca Raton vs. Conference USA
– Birmingham Bowl vs. SEC
– Hawaii Bowl vs. Mountain West
– Frisco Bowl vs. Sun Belt
– Military Bowl vs. ACC
– Bad Boy Mowers Gasparilla Bowl vs. Conference USA
The American Athletic has secondary partnerships with the AutoZone Liberty and Camping World Independence

Before any trading occurs, the only AAC bowls that fit the criteria are Birmingham and Military. Considering Navy is virtually a lock for the game they host, Birmingham is your only option.

As shown we have a secondary alliance with the Liberty Bowl and a match up with Arkansas would be beyond my wildest dreams. Of course right now I am hoping for 6 wins and anywhere. Birmingham would probably be my second choice.

Assuming we don't blow through conference and get the New Year's Six game (I assume they would send us to the Cotton) it does sound like Birmingham is the best option
