Houston Hate Week: Your memories

Postby skyscraper » Mon Oct 02, 2017 11:35 am

There's been some unusual and memorable games between us and UH -- good and bad. What moments, memories or games stick out for you?

They always make me over pay for slurpees. I hate them for that.

The payback game in 1992

I was one of the 14,000 (total attendance that day) who got a free plastic football at the UH-SMU game in 1992.

I would still have that plastic football if I did not chuck it at Jack Pardee and the Houston coaching staff as they led their team off the field after a resounding 41-16 pounding by the Ponies.

The band bus had a few drinks flowing on the drive back, and made it better.

The Thursday night 72-41 arse whipping in 2012 was quite memorable and satisfying. Defense scored early and often with 9-10 turnovers.

You must have an amazing arm if you threw it at Pardee in 1992 since he didn't coach at UH after 1989

fondest memory is how coog fans would take over the 7-11 on mockingbird for their tailgate.

You are correct - it was coach Jenkins and staff. He was the "Run Up the Score" OC when Pardee was HC.

It is hard to keep track of the 9 Head Coaches that you all have had since Pardee.

And, yes - I do have a hell of an arm.

Actually 8 permanent head coaches, 2 one bowl game interim coaches

In that same time, SMU has had 5 permanent HCs with 1 interim. The difference between our last 5 HCs and SMUs? Ours all had winning records while none of SMUs did.

And yes Jenkins was the run it up OC. As much as you guys hate Pardee, he's the reason UH didn't score over 100 in 1989. Jenkins wouldn't have taken a knee to end that game. He also would have played Ware in the 2nd half

1. 95-21 w/ 1021 yards. Was a college kid rooting for 100. Now I have much more discretion. :)
2. 2010's 45-20 win. Rushed back to town from wife's college reunion. Caught second half due to long rain delay. Solid win over ultimate west division champion Ponies.
3. 2012 72-42 loss. Didn't we have 9 turnovers? Or was it a 9 TO margin? Like a bunch of clowns.
4. 2016 38-16 loss. Ponies came ready to play. Coogs did not execute well. Found out early in the week that Big12 wasn't expanding. Coach probably leaving w/o $5M P5 bonus.

1980. Being called a N-word by the Houston middle LB. Yes, he called me a N-word. Later in the game, he got an unsportsman like penalty when he called Freshman Ricky Bolden a N-word. Ricky responded by giving him the finger.
