Three-man pass rush is for losers....

Postby Donnell88 » Sat Nov 25, 2017 2:11 pm

...and Mustangs. I hate the three-man rush; I have never bought into the wisdom of the prevent defence. And who decided it's a smart move to give the opposing quarterback eight seconds to throw.
Combine a three-man rush with soft coverage and it may explain why we can't stop anybody on third down.

hmm we were coming at the guy pretty hard in 4th Q just from different angles and locations-we shook him up a few times but he slipped away on several- he was running for his life on about 3 occasions where he barely avoided an intentional grounding-he wasn't comfortable back there at least

Thought Lawler and D line just busted their tails off but the QB had some wheels and size to get out of a couple where I thought we had him.

I liked their QB. thought he was a challenge -and he didn't have much help.

IMO three man line on defense is not usually three men rushing the qb. Its a good defense to run to set up stunts and overload blitzes, etc. It can also be harder to read for a qb because a similar game can be played in passing lanes with sweeping coverages. One of the problems is sometimes you give up a big play and giving up big plays has been a major problem for SMU this year. That comes in part for playing so many sophomores and freshmen dbs. None the less, the type of defense SMU runs is popular right now. It's a sophisticated defense and can be challenging.
