No real details.

Hard to type with tears in my eyes.

He beleived in two things a player loves. He told one the truth. Sometimes, it wasn't what one wanted to hear. And he gave the best player the chance to play. No favorites, just the best player at the time to do the job. He gave everyone an opportunity.

I loved Ron Meyer and would have gone to Hell with him. Still would

I knew him as well, though only in passing.

Glenn Box and I got to know each other through a youth group, and then later when he was recruited as a TE to SMU. Glenn went to W. T. White in North Dallas, and he was the one that encouraged me to walk on. I did, and rather quickly limped off.

Ron Meyer learned my name, and would say hello on campus after my "15 minutes of fame". In the grand scheme of things, a nobody who didn't have the talent was noticed and graciously greeted regardless. Class.

A good lesson in leadership that I got to learn early on at SMU. Saddened to hear of this, and grateful for his gifts in making SMU football relevant in the 1970s.

He turned me on to SMU football the year SMU took Ohio State and Penn St to the brink.. was glued to the radio as a 9 year old.
A lot of people forget he was AFC coach of the year twice with the Patriots and the Colts, two quick turn arounds.

My favorite Ron Meyer quote: "Winning cures cancer."
