Compare and contrast the college resumes of

Larry Brown
Chad Morris
Jank who has perhaps the best College Assistant Coach resume in history

If anyone thought that hiring Jeff Traylor as HCIW without first serving as an Offensive Coordinator knowing that negotiations between Chad and the school were souring then that person who thought that was a great idea needs to be removed from the Coach selection committee. I actually think there was someone dumb enough to think this was a good idea-its been haunting me since the day he was hired.

In the history of football has a running backs coach ever been named head coach without serving as oc?

Off the top of my head these guys got HC jobs from the RB coach position without ever having served as OC in FBS

Art Briles was Tech's RB Coach before taking the Houston job
Larry Porter was LSU's RB Coach before taking the Memphis job
Frank Wilson was LSU's RB Coach before taking the UTSA job

Found another

Mike Jinks was Tech's RB Coach before taking the Bowling Green job

I believe Fedora was a position coach at OSU before taking the Southern Miss job.

Earning $393,000 a year at Oklahoma State, Fedora was one of the top paid offensive coordinators in the country. In November 2007, Fedora was rumored to be a candidate for the head coaching job at Baylor University, which eventually went to Art Briles. On December 11, 2007, Fedora was named the new head coach of Southern Miss,

More like Craddock>Traylor. Craddock was personally groomed by Chad Morris to run our offense.

Porter also had 12 years of college experience including SEC/Big 12-his hiring by Memphis relied TOO heavily on his recruiting resume

Same deal with Frank Wilson who had 19 years of college experience including 3 SEC teams

Porter and Wilson were hired because they are considered "Ace" recruiters

Briles at UH is really the only closely analogous situation-good for him

I don't know if it would be a good decision or not - just saying that is why he was originally brought in.

Our head coaches still have to fight a lot of battles against the administration; it requires skins on the wall to be able to do that. That would be my biggest misgiving to a Traylor hire.

The only reason that I could see hiring Traylor is because all the other legitimate potential coaches (I.e. Todd Orlando) decline or they’re out of budget. If Traylor does badly against LA Tech, I’m not sure what we can do. If we win and especially win big, I feel like they have to go with Traylor with like a 1 year agreement. If they do that (not sure how much he makes now) but pay well under the $2.2m and hopefully have donors still commit and use excess cash for building a stockpile for the next coach or a really good recruiter.

Skins on the wall mean nothing. As Mexmustang has pointed out the administration is going to do what they are going to do regardless. CM got the IPF nailed down. I thought you said Todd Orlando would be a good hire.

If we legitimately go after Dykes my enthusiasm for this program will plummet

If Traylor is Hart's guy, I would expect an announcement SOON for continuity sake. Otherwise, it appears they are stringing Traylor and the remaining staff out for the bowl game and might then name a new coach who will clean house after the bowl game.
