Man, I figured once the Dykes hire moved on your stupidity would end. But I guess you're the type to beat the drum no matter what.

Is this a joke? La Tech has been a perennial bowl team for the last 7-8 years. It is relatively close to Dallas. They'll bring a good crowd to Ford. What is not to like about this?

No joke. TCU path to victory was with challenges morning this crap. Beat LA Tech isn’t going to move the needle for us. It will have the exact same effect as beating NTCC. Nothing. Losing? Makes you look like you are regressing.

TCU's kickass nonconference schedule is largely a myth. Put aside the easy W that was SMU on TCU's nonconference schedule most years, TCU has played:

Arkie State (1999)
1-10 Navy (2000)
NTSU (2001)
NW State (FCS) (2001)
NTSU (2002)
Army (2005)
UC-Davis (FCS) (2006)
Army (2006)
SFA (FCS) (2008)
Texas State (FCS) (2009)
Tenn. Tech (FCS) (2010)
Portland State (FCS) (2011)
U LA MO (2011)
Grambling (FCS) (2012) (first year in Big XII)
SE La (FCS) (2013)
Samford (FCS) (2014)
SFA (2015)
SD State (FCS) (2016)
Jackson State (FC) (2017)

TCU model is very clear. When they have 4 nonconference games, they try to have 1 gimmie home game, SMU, 1 easy P5 opponent and 1 challenge. Not included in that list are a lot of bad Northwestern, Virginia, Vanderbilt and Stanford teams. Once they made the Big XII, the started playing one P5 school, SMU and one FCS school.

Yeah, TCU had a home and home with OU in 2005 and 2006 and got beat by Texas in 2007. Good for them. Other than that, their nonconference schedule has looked a lot like ours, except we had to play perennial bowl team TCU and they had to play perennial doormat SMU.

Hey how about actually writing an opinion than being a [deleted] troll. Otherwise, you’re a pointless poster and best left to spectating.

Maybe take some notes on how SMU football blog actually puts together an argument rather than just trolls. You might learn something.

Scheduling La Tech home and home is a long way from "lightening" the schedule. We'll be lucky to split the
two games.

Maybe so, but it’s one of those games where if you lose, any all excitement goes out the door. If you win, no one is giving you a round of applause from fans of other schools. They’re going to say: “wasn’t that expected?”. It’s similar to Arkie State, anyone and everyone I spoke to about how SMU was doing saying we were 6-2. The general feedback was: not bad losses but definitely no name wins. While we scout and say Arkie st was a conference champion and LA Tech is normally a decent G5, no one will see it that way should we lose and no plus value for winning. So why risk it? It’s also not going to generate hype among locals either while I understand that’s a tough problem, it’s still there.

So who is SMU supposed to play in OOC games? What P5 schools are willing to agree to a home and home series with SMU? Also just because you lost to a P5 school doesn't make it a good loss.

P5 schools won’t agree to a home and Home but maybe 2-1 or just play them on the road. I’m glad we have Michigan to mix it up but heck get a duke on the road that way it’s still a winnable game or heck Kansas on the road. 2019 we only have TCU for a P5 (no complaining about fan attendance there). Also no TCU after 2019 that will hopefully be renewed but if not then we really need find a decent P5.

If we schedule cupcakes we are going to end up like UCF...one day we may actually have a good team but we’ll get left out of the conversation because we don’t play a competitive schedule

Duke just signed a deal with TCU. (http://www.fbschedules.com/2017/12/tcu- ... ll-series/) What motivation is there for Kansas need to play SMU in Dallas? They already visit Texas multiple times each season.

Now if you are talking road games only, that is something completely different. Plenty of P5 schools would be willing to schedule SMU without having to give a return game. But don't go into them expecting SMU to win a significant portion of those games.

And don't complain when we have to schedule a Southland Conference team at home to balance the home/away schedule in those years

Yes I’m talking about road games with hopefully negotiating an away (x2) and Home but if it’s only away then yes. Main reason UCF wasn’t even considered for CFP was due to a weak OOC. Yes CP I won’t complain about weak home games to balance. 2019 for us is a prime example of my complaint with only TCU being a noteworthy game.

We could win 4 OOC games against the SEC West and still not be considered for the playoff due to:

1. our conference schedule
2. P5 will not share that with G5
