Former Oregon St. HC Gary Andersen is Dykes' pick for DC?

Dykes is strongly considering adding former Oregon State and Wisconsin head coach Gary Andersen as defensive coordinator.
October 9th Gary Andersen and Oregon State mutually agreed to part ways after a 1-5 start to his third season in Corvallis. Andersen led the program to a 2-10 finish his first season, in 2015, followed by a 4-8 mark in 2016. Overall, he was 7-23 as the head coach of the Beavers.

In an interesting twist, Andersen agreed to free the school from the $12.7 million buyout that he was due from Oregon State, per the terms of his contract.
Anderson has played an integral part of a number of very successful defenses over the years as an assistant, highlighted by a few seasons as the defensive coordinator at Utah from 2005-08. From there he became the head coach at Utah State (2009-12), and then Wisconsin (2013-14) before leaving Madison to take over the Oregon State program in 2015.

that would be an excellent choice--he did a great job at Wisconsin-but he was bitter about Wisconsin academic standards and took a bad job in spite. Rarely do you see a successful coach voluntarily take a demotion

also of course rebuilt Utah St. which finally gained some stature after being in shadow of BYU and Utah for so long

Utah was ranked 15th in Total Defense in both 2007 and 2008 - @ 300 YPG and 16 PPG.

I hope he wasn’t watching the game last night. That could have been a deal killer.

Would be a nice hire. It's great to have a cooch who realizes there is more than one phase to the game.

Maybe we will even have a special teams coach too! Imagine that!

BTW it looks like Andersen has consistently employed a 3-4 defensive scheme at Utah St., Wisconsin and Oregon St. so if he gets the job that's going to significantly affect who we recruit and where our players line up.

Guys like Badejo, Ndukwe and Tyeson Neals might switch off the line, Demerick probably back to DE, Pono is probably your NG with McLaurin fitting at NG too, Scott would fit the DE protype. Probably going to need to sign some more LBs especially Inside LBs and some DEs with size because I'd expect several mentioned above to move off the line. 6-6 Devontay Wheatly kid at Tyler JC looks like he could fit at DE if he can add some weight -he hasn't signed yet.

Richard Moore should be one of your MLBs. Spears looks great "on paper" at MLB but he can't get on the field with a bad defense. I'm not sure what they do with Kyran Mitchell-inside or outside LB? Delano Robinson--I dunno-maybe back to Strong Safety where he played in High school. Might even fit our personnel better quite frankly
