and the RGT anti-sports group strikes again. Perhaps the BOT should fire RGT because he came from Ol' Miss and they are known cheaters. IMO guilt by association can work both ways.

His job is to make sure that the school doesn’t make bad decisions. Clements might be a great OL Coach, but he isn’t the only one out there

from the way our school has fallen in academic ranking it looks like he has made a lot of bad decisions. IIRC our law school used to be tops in the SW. now not so. just one example.

If this guy goes all the way back to the Stephenville days with Briles , you can bet he's got plenty
of dirt on him . Many HS coaches believed that steroids played a big part in the Yellowjacket's success.

hey blackie- I believe the comment was made that he was eliminated by the ADMINISTRATION (i.e. RGT) as they didn't approved of his past relationship with baylor. So that is how RGT fits into this.
P.S. not quite an octogenarian but will be there in a few years. hahaha. Ever hear of the old saying' we get old too fast and SMART too late? take heed.

Strange that the administration that felt just fine hiring Larry Brown as basketball coach would have some hesitation about Clements.

Can't remember Coach Brown fostering a culture of rape and then trying to protect the guilty

Can you factually expand on this? Because we have been just outside of the top 50 for a very long time. There has been no falling academic rankings. In fact our average test scores have gone up considerably in the last 5 years, which should lead to a move up soon. If you mean to criticize due to not moving up quickly, than that is a fair criticism.

lol Clements not coming to SMU has absolutely nothing to do with "administrative" issues at SMU. Try again.

Is anyone aware of anything that RGT has done to significantly enhance academics from a faculty perspective?

We have hovered around the 50s in terms of US universities for a long time (far lower than that globally) but I haven’t seen anything to suggest we are trying to grow the academic reputation.

Fountains however....

Increasing the academic profile of incoming students seems like the most identifiable. 30 ACT etc.

Part of the "Pony Power" thing is to increase giving in order to generate more scholarship $ to be able to continue to attract high level students and compete with the ever elusive "peer institutions," according to the promo material.

If we want to move up, then follow the formula:

Graduation and retention rates (22.5 percent)
Undergraduate academic reputation (22.5 percent)
Faculty resources (20 percent)
Student selectivity (12.5 percent)
Financial resources (10 percent)
Graduation rate performance (7.5 percent)

Continuing to talk about ACT or SAT scores is not really helpful. Student Selectivity is only one part (65% Test Scores, 25% percent in top 10, and 10 percent student admitted to applicants).

Money will help with faculty resources and financial resources, which SMU likely does poorly in considering the high amount of debt students graduate with.

Graduation and retention rates should be very doable if they stop looking at students as cash cows. Here are SMU's graduation rates four-year (66 percent) and six-year (78 percent). SMU has done a good job at retaining first year students at about 90 percent. \

We should be killing it for Graduate rate performance, but we aren't doing any better than UT with almost 6 times as many students. For a school like SMU, 30 to 40 percent should be going to grad school and the rest should have jobs secured, especially since we are in the heart of Dallas.

RGT as proven that he doesn't know how to put a staff together that will increase its academic reputation or selectivity. Our peers in TX private schools aren't doing any better--TCU and Baylor. Get east coast admission officers and administration to right the ship.
