let us finally put to bed the "we aren't committed to paying top coaches" nonsense

this is a very good hire, and I am sure we beat many P5 programs for his services.

Sounds official

Rhett Lashlee is leaving UConn after one year as the Huskies' offensive coordinator to take the same position at SMU.

Lashlee, 34, spent four seasons as the offensive coordinator at Auburn before coming to UConn as part of Randy Edsall's new staff.

But wait, he ditched his kids after 1 year!! What a jerk, traitor, doesn't care about his kids, what about his commitment...

 It is a big bad world out there in coaching.

Mentored by Gus Mahlzhan all the way back to high school which is interesting because he's not an Air Raid guy but rather a power spread guy

That's very telling, in that SFD is willing to morph and adjust his bellcow offense unlike some previous holders of the SMU HFC throne (June)

From SMUMustangs.com:

Lashlee Named Offensive Coordinator
Two-Time Broyles Award Finalist Headed To The Hilltop

DALLAS (SMU) - Rhett Lashlee has been named Offensive Coordinator at SMU, Head Coach Sonny Dykes announced Thursday.

Lashlee has served as an OC for the past seven seasons, spending 2017 at UConn, 2013-16 at Auburn, 2012 at Arkansas State and 2011 at Samford. He will coach the Mustang quarterbacks in addition to leading the offense.

"I'm excited to add Rhett to our staff," said Dykes. "He has experience as an offensive coordinator at the highest level – a national-championship level – and also knows our league. He is one of the sharp, young minds in our profession and he has a bright future ahead of him. I know he'll be a great coach as well as a dynamic recruiter who will connect with kids as well as high school coaches."

"My family and I are thrilled about joining Coach Dykes' staff on the Hilltop. Between SMU's storied history and Coach Dykes' proven success – there are a lot of great things happening with Mustang football. Blending Coach Dykes' exciting brand of football with my background and vision will create some exciting Saturdays at Ford Stadium. I can't wait to get started."

In his only season in Storrs, Lashlee improved the Huskies' offense significantly, as UConn jumped from 122nd to 49th in total offense and from 94th to 34th in passing offense.

Prior to UConn, Lashlee helped Auburn to the 2013 SEC Championship and a BCS Championship berth, managing one of the more prolific offenses in college football during his tenure. The 2013-14 seasons were the best back-to-back offensively in Auburn history, and the 2014 squad set an Auburn record for total offense. Lashlee also served as the quarterbacks coach and demonstrated impressive ability to develop talent. In 2013, Auburn had the second biggest turnaround in college football history. Starting QB Nick Marshall did not practice until August, but Lashlee tutored the junior college transfer to 3,044 yards of total offense (1,976 passing, 1,068 rushing), 14 TD passes and 12 rushing TDs.

Lashlee was the offensive coordinator at Arkansas State (2012) and Samford (2011) and also served as a graduate assistant at Auburn (2009-10) and Arkansas (2006-08). While at Auburn as an offensive graduate assistant during the 2009-10 seasons, Lashlee assisted Gus Malzahn with all aspects of the offense and coached the slot receivers in 2010. In 2009, the Tigers finished 8-5 winning the Outback Bowl. During the 2010 season he helped the Tigers finish 14-0, winning the SEC title and the BCS National Championship behind Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Cam Newton. Lashlee coached at Springdale (Ark.) High School in 2004-05, working with the quarterbacks and 2005 National Player of the Year Mitch Mustain.

Lashlee has been a finalist for the Broyles Award, presented to the nation's top assistant coach, on two occasions.

Lashlee graduated from Arkansas in 2006 with a degree in marketing and business administration. He received his master's degree in higher education from Auburn in 2009.

He is married to the former Lauren Lee of Rogers, Ark., an Arkansas business graduate. They have twin sons, Thomas and Hudson, and twin daughters, Rowyn and Scarlet.

Why did you leave out 2013 when he was a finalist for the Bryoles Award and 2014 when Auburn set a school record for total offense?

Captain "cherry picking to fit a narrative" at it again.
