From SMUMustangs.com:

SMU Announces 2018 Football Schedule

Conference Release

(DALLAS) – The SMU football program today announced its 2018 football schedule, which includes six games at Gerald J. Ford Stadium and seven contests against teams that made a bowl appearance a season ago.

The Mustangs open the 2018 season on Sept. 1 at North Texas, before returning to the Hilltop for a Friday night match-up with Metroplex rival TCU on Sept. 7. The Battle for the Iron Skillet will also be SMU's annual Whiteout game.

A trip to The Big House is on the schedule for Sept. 15 when SMU travels to Michigan, and SMU opens AAC play by hosting Navy on Sept. 22. SMU then closes out its non-conference slate at home with a Sept. 29 match-up with Houston Baptist.

The Mustangs will also host American Athletic Conference West Division opponents Houston (Nov. 3) and Memphis (Friday, Nov. 16), while facing Tulane (Oct. 20) and Tulsa (Nov. 24) on the road. SMU welcomes East Division member Cincinnati (Oct. 27) to the Hilltop, and travels to UCF (Oct. 6) and Connecticut (Nov. 10).

SMU finished the 2017 season with seven wins and made its first bowl appearance since the 2012 season. The Mustangs were one of only two teams in the nation to finish with a 3,000-yard passer, 1,000-yard rusher and two 1,000-yard receivers. As a team, the Mustangs ranked seventh nationally in fourth-down conversion percentage (.700), while ranking in the top 15 in first down offense (312), scoring offense (37.8) and total offense (478.5).

Kickoff times and more TV information will be announced at a later date. For Mustang ticket information, call the Athletics Department Ticket Office at (214) SMU-GAME (768-4263).

So does 4 and 6 seem realistic?

not with 12 games on the schedule, but 4-8 is a very real possibility

I would hope we will be 2-4 at that point and if we can do better, hats off to Sonny

At least we have TCU, Navy and Houston coming to Ford which should help boost attendance averages, but getting people interested remains one of SMU's biggest challenges. At least we are not alone:

https://www.cbssports.com/college-footb ... -34-years/

We averaged an "announced" 19,944 per game last year. Should be able to improve on that thanks to those 3 games alone. Tulsa and Tulane games last year drew less than 15k each

Hope springs eternal....can't wait for next football season and I don't see why we can't be 3-3. This is going to be the year we figure out how to stop the triple option and we darn well better beat UNT and Houston Baptist. UCF might be the scariest team on that schedule. Michigan doesn't scare me and I'm looking forward to the trip to the Big House.

We can get to 6 wins by beating:

NTSU who we've beaten about 90% of the time in our History
Houston Baptist who has an up-start Division 1AA team

And beating the teams at the bottom half of the AAC last year-Tulsa (2-10), UCONN (3-9), Cincy (4-8), and Tulane (5-6). Those 4 teams won a grand total of 8 AAC games mostly against each other. We don't have to play either USF or Temple.

AAC is not going to be as strong in 2018. unlikely to have a Top 10 team or 3 Top 25 teams especially with USF and Memphis losing their starting QBs. Why sign 5 JUCOs if we are in rebuild mode. We're not-we got the QB who has thrown more TDs than any QB in SMU History, 3-4 great RBs-3 that are already proven and 2 with 1,000 yard rushing seasons, a 20 ypc WR with about as many catches as anyone in SMU History by his Sophomore year, we have plenty of experienced Offensive Linemen and added 3 quality JUCOs.

We've got an All-Conference caliber CB. Got 2 others with starting experience at the other CB plus another JUCO CB. We've got 2 safeties that at least now have multiple year starting experience. Another hybrid that at least makes a lot of plays. Sonny said he thinks our Defensive Line was probably one of the strongest areas on the team. We've got Texas A&M transfer Richard Moore who is expected to be solid at LB. Sonny seems to think Denbow was highly underrated. We've redshirted liberally over the last two years so we should expect some of those to emerge who haven't played much.

Hope you are right but we have to play UNT in Denton where our track record is less than 90% and we have to play 3 of those 4 AAC bottom feeders (and it's not like we have escaped that label ourselves) at their place, as well. That's what has me concerned.

Depends how you count (because of players returning from injury but arguably SMU has 8 returning starters on Offense and 8 returning starters on Defense (+ a former A&M LB with some starting experience)--SMU definitely has 9-10 on both sides of the ball with substantial starting experience. I'm counting Natour for example as a returning starter. Guys like Howerton, Demerick and Neals have started but not every week. This really won't be an immature team any more. The returning starters is probably the best we've had in awhile especially coming off a Bowl team
