The former SMU receiver took a visit Wednesday, just over a week before the draft.

Sutton and Cowboys on the surface sounds great. Plus with Bease, it's great for SMU.

However, that's a lot of pressure to live up to ("Bryant replacement"). If he doesn't kill it right away, I feel the fans could turn on him. Now, I think Sutton is up for the challenge but ... just sayin

Sutton is going to need some time to fine-tune his route running before he is super effective. He will be a good player in the NFL, but I think it will come in year 2. He might backup for Dallas year one, even with the loss of Dez.

That said, he is a great fit because of his blocking ability on the outside.

Trey Quinn, on the other hand, I think can have an immediate impact for whomever drafts him.

Well, let's see:

-overpaid, underproducing "star"...check
-problem child on/off field.....check
-early drop-off in production on back-end of contract...check

I expect Sutton would NOT live up to this "legacy" that DB left...instead, I would expect him to do what he did at SMU...develop into an asset and a star.

This is kind of what I'm thinking. If Quinn can land on the right team, he can be an all pro type guy. An elite player. Sutton, I think, might need some time and I'm not sure Cowboy nation will be all that patient with anyone dubbed "the new Dez Bryant". I wouldn't want to get into that situation.

Let's just agree to disagree. Bryant was the best player on that team since he stepped foot on the field until last Friday when he wasn't on the team anymore. Did he get in trouble on or off the field? I must have missed something. His stats were all #1 on the team last year so ....

certainly agree to disagree amicably...

Bryant has had a myriad of off field issues, dating well back into his contract, and usually involving the DeSoto PD being called out. It led to questions back in the day about extension/re-sign guarantee money, and his eventual release last week.

I would suggest that there were several more critical and essential players on the Cowboys last year...Sean Lee, Elliot, Tyron Smith, Dak for starters. As far as receivers, Cole was more consistent, with less size and speed.

Sutton will be a fit and a hit in Dallas. My hope is Jones will pull the trigger and make him the "other half" of the Cowboy-SMU connection.

I wasn't aware of DeSoto PD being called. Have watched interviews the last couple of days and the running narrative was that he never had any kind of issues (like Irvin etc). I can agree that there were probably more essential players but he was the most talented IMHO.

Would certainly be awesome for SMU to get Sutton on that squad.

point taken...88 will ALWAYS bring Pearson to mind, just like 22 brings Hayes to mind and 17 means Meredith.

Bygone days of simple youth...

On that note, Jerry Kovar used to get razzed by guys my age (now) that he had to "earn" number 37. He was a heckuva player at a number of positions.
