Are we seriously freaking out over a 1.5 line when no one from here to Vegas knows who will even be in the line ups for either team? Can we just get back to uniforms or attendance?

Mean Green were ranked #144, just below Cal Poly - San Luis Obispo and just ahead of Montana State

chadster was paid the highest nonP5 salary in the nation, well over twice as much as NTSU paid their HC. We have the same inherent advantages over NTSU that TCU now enjoys over us.

Yet here we are still 1.5 point dogs.

No doubt NTSU got more value for their $$$ than we did.

You are absolutely correct , SCP ! I'm glad we now have a "real" football coach, not a used car salesman.

I am curious and this is not to argue with the last exchange. Had CM not taken the SMU job what offers might he have received the last several years? G-5, P-5, Div. II, what? I would think some can recall any talk and speculate where he might be.

And is the comment made by some that the CofC or who ever footed the bill for his salary did not adequately fund for assistants including coordinators - is that true?

Going back to the coming of JJ I was sorry SMU did not get the first person said to have the job and who opted for a P-5 school. I never believed one story at the time that it was all cover for the "real"
attempt to land Coach Jones.

Who exactly is freaking out? You are diminishing this conversation by saying so.

Here are the facts:

SMU was lousy when tiki left, but so was NTSU, as shown by the fact that San Luis Obispo was ranked higher than them during that same season. In fact, NTSU would fire their HC one season after chad was hired.

We are now entering a game with NTSU in which some non-redshirted kids recruited by chad will now be Seniors. I think most resonable people can agree that this game will be a toss-up. This is supported by Las Vegas, whose betting lines should never ever to poo-pooed.

You may disagree with me, but I believe SMU has certain inherent advantages over NTSU much like TCU now has over us, including our ability to overpay our coaches given our non-P5 status. We paid chad well over twice as much as NTSU pays their HC.

Everyone is misinterpreting me if they think this is solely an attack on chad.

I'm just stating that 4 years later, we are in the same boat as NTSU.

Personally I do not believe I, nor anyone else has the ability to diminish a Ponyfans thread.

Here is a fact. No one, including Vegas knows what our line up will be when we take the field. Including a defense that will not resemble last years in any way. I am willing to let it play out and see what we have at that time. I know NTSU will most likely have one of the most accurate passers we will face all year. We have seen him. We, nor they most likely have seen our linebackers and secondary that will be on the field other than Wyatt. Some are from Morris and some are from Dykes.

Logic says it all. SMU coming into the game with a new coach, losing most of our receiving production, crapping in a bowl game and with a poor defense from last season. UNT coming into the game at home with a proven QB and a couple of years under their coach, not to mention gelling last half of the season past. I think that explains the line for preseason. Who knows what this team will be under Dykes?

And huge motivation on the part of North Texas to beat us.

I haven't read all of the previous 55 posts but it's no mystery why North Texas is favored. Louisiana Tech defeated SMU 51-10 in the Frisco Bowl. A month earlier UNT beat La Tech 24-23.

and NTSU got beat 69-31 by FAU WITH THEIR COACHING STAFF, only got blown out by 32 to SMU and lost their last 2 games to FAU 41-17 and Troy 50-30. We might just get beat by NTSU on the road in Denton but this pissin' down our leg attitude around here sucks worse than I ever remember it

Stallion:
To be clear, I'm not suggesting SMU is going to lose to UNT. But betting lines are set so that there will be an equal amount of money bet on both teams. Casinos make their money on football wagers because you have to bet $110 to win $100. The main reason bettors accept this risk is they are so confident that their team is going to win.
And historically, people who bet on football are overly influenced by a team's most recent outing.

Have to admit Morris likely ended up at his dream school, if for no other reason than he and the Arkansas 'chant/call' have to be the most perfect and corniest match ever made............

footballdad, the University of Arkansas is rarely someone's "dream school"...Chad wanted the Aggie gig, but that wasn't happening after the situation in Tallahassee made Jimbo Fisher available.

Morris was ready to move on from SMU. To consider the train wreck in Waco demonstrated that...he will win to some degree at Arky, but eventually will leave there too.

Remember, Arkansas is where the toothbrush was invented...anywhere else it would have been called a "teethbrush"
