Our defense has looked pretty good all year. What was even more of a surprise is that our offensive line looked much improved, and we had a potent running game. Hicks played well, but it helps our passing game when the opposing defense is concerned about a running game. It is great when the whole team is on their "A" game like last night. Great win Mustangs! GREAT WIN!

I was impressed with Beau Morris who was thrown in at LT. Thought he had a pretty good game

His man did get a sack late in the game but after watching the replay I'm pretty sure the defender was offsides or he was reading the snap

Thanks for posting...interesting view from the other side. Tampa 2: The Tampa 2 is an American football defensive scheme popularized by (and thus named after) the Tampa Bay Buccaneers National Football League (NFL) team in the mid-1990s–early 2000s.

The Tampa 2 is typically employed out of a 4–3 defensive alignment, which consists of four linemen, three linebackers, two cornerbacks, and two safeties. The defense is similar to a Cover 2 defense, except the middle linebacker drops into a deep middle coverage for a Cover 3 when he reads a pass play.

Anyone else amused by Hicks running out and getting SMU sheets? Hilarious.

SMU sheets?

From the article:

Hired as the offensive coordinator a few weeks later, Major Applewhite had about 48 hours to make a sales pitch to Hicks. By then, the quarterback was set to move into his dorm room and "already had SMU sheets and everything."

Honestly, though, I disagree with them. We played a hybrid. As you stated, Tampa 2 is a 4 man front and safeties split outside. LB drops to cover the deep middle.

In this defense, we had 3 true safeties in the game and a 4th playing next to the LBs. You could view that 4th safety as the nickel corner if you want. But our 2 LBs stayed at the line of scrimmage to support the run, short pass game, and to blitz. They didn't drop. We used the third safety to cover the deep middle. Left a huge hole mid-range in the middle of the field and dared them to either power run or hit that pass. They couldn't do it.

I get that you could say the third safety was playing the role of the MLB, but he was way deeper than the MLB in a standard Tampa 2, and the other LBs didn't split out wide.

It was a very creative defense that doesn't really match up with any standard scheme out there.

Nothing but the best...

BTW - Deion Jr's rant on Coach Morris and SMU is epic. "Coach Morris is a Ho - they all Hos."

Noticed he got beat on a couple of speed rushes but he looks like a brawler. Could become an important part of the OL the next couple of years with Pursley and Natour graduating

You have to choose the day (Saturday) and hit replay. I couldn't find it in search either.
