Before his latest quest for perfection ended with one measly pin upright, teetering before remaining vertical, Aldrick Robinson did what he always does in these situations.

It was last summer and Robinson’s six-year goal of a perfect 300 bowling score – 12 straight strikes in a game – was within reach. For the third time in his life, nine frames had yielded nine strikes. He entered the final frame three strikes from a flawless performance. This is what he’s worked for when he’s away from football, hours at the alley distracting him from the stresses of life in the NFL. After Vikings practices, he organizes outings to Town Hall Lanes in Minneapolis, the site of the best alleys in the area, he said. At night, he watches YouTube videos breaking down the minor details of a roll. He watches professional tournaments on ESPN. And he thinks about the feeling of that first perfect game.
