8-4 is the benchmark with that OOC schedule. Anything less would be a disappointment.

You’re planning on going 8-4 with an OOC that coild very well end in 1-3?

I think we'll be better, but i'm not sure we crack .500 -- I fear another 5-7 record

You guys need to raise your expectations a bit.

QB - BETTER. SB is an upgrade over BH.
RB - PUSH. West is a big loss, but we are deeper now, and last year we had games where we didn't have enough bodies. That won't factor in this season.
WR - BETTER. Same players, more experience, and awesome additions.
TE - BETTER. Same players, more experience
OL - PUSH/BETTER. Pursley and Natour were starters, sure. But they weren't dominant last season, they weren't healthy a lot, and when Morris and Ali played the offense actually performed better a lot of the time, and Ali beat out Natour at the end of the season. Add experience and a year in the program to Thomas, sprinkle in the new much more highly rated guys and I think it is a better unit next season. Especially when you add the GT.
DL - BETTER. Same players, more experience from a group that exceeded expectations last season.
LB - PUSH/BETTER. We loose Mitchell, but Williams, Denbow, Hailey, and Robinson all showed signs that they are ready to play more and they are upper classmen. Last year's class will provide more depth.
CB - PUSH. Wyatt was never Wyatt last season. If we were losing Wyatt from 2 years ago, I would be concerned. The new JUCO should be good. The second year of a JUCO is always much, MUCH better than the first (see Moore, Crawford), so expect a lot out of Hayes. KJ played better at the end of last season. Sutton and Davis are just "guys", but they are serviceable backups.
S - PUSH. We have good safeties. Some depth concerns, but will be interesting if Nelson plays up like last season or if he moves back to safety with improved depth at LB. Clay is ready to be in the two deep. I would say better because of Clay, but I think we are losing some depth here.

I don't see where we are getting worse this year as a team.

Schedule-wise we get UNT at home, we swap out at michigan with at arkansas state, trade UCF for USF,, trade Cincy for Temple, trade @UConn for home against ECU. Across the board, the schedule is easier.

@Ark St is a tough game, but this should be a BETTER team in year two. We should start to win those games, as well as UNT. Our expectations should be 3-1 OOC and 4-4 in conference.

I've added it to my list as well. Hope to see you there.

If we go 1-3, time to board up the stadium.

Would be a sign of improvement if we go 2-2 in non-conference. Any better and we will have dramatically improved.

Get ready to be disappointed. SMU has won only 8 or more games 16 times since 1916 . And that's with 5 years of winning in the Pony Express days. That is 87 seasons of terrible football.

Is SMU legitimately the worst program to ever exist?

Some one else can probably give you a better report but some schools quit before they used up their W - L, notably Chicago though after Jay Berwanger was awarded the first of what became the Heisman. Forty years or so later they restarted in DIV III and have had some success and are still over 0.500.

I get that Ark state and UNT are probably better than we like to admit - but I don't see us at 1-3 with that OOC schedule. In fact I think we could be going into Houston at 6-1 depending on some breaks our way. That would be a pretty fun game to go see if so.

Am I wrong or is there a total of 2 games against teams that either (a) sub-500 in 2018; or (b) SMU e beat them the last time they played?

Either way, doesn't change the fact that it's an incredibly weak schedule (for most teams).
Just glad we don't have the OOC we used to have with Baylor, Aggy, TCU
