Another place this way of thinking shows up on campus.
In Around the Hilltop section.

In my day, so many students attended the Cotton Bowl games we had a “Card Section” that spelled out words during game

What was tailgating like in the Cotton Bowl days?
Didn't RGT beef up Boulevarding based on his experience with The Grove at Ole Miss?

don't recall tail gating when we played in the cotton bowl 68-72. we took a bus from campus with beer kegs. at 1/2 time or whenever, we went back to the bus and drank beer.

That was pretty much the drill for students through the mid 70's and I wasn't really aware of what alumni were doing. Once we moved to Texas Stadium, we could tailgate in the lots close to the stadium.

So RGT came in 1995. I suppose he was a driving force behind Boulevarding and fundraising for Ford Stadium. Gotta take care of the students.

RGT came to SMU from Ole Miss where he saw what The Grove" could do for that University so yes, he was a proponent of The Boulevard

I suggest when SMU sells the Blvd spots the students have used for years they should inform new purchasers that this is a 1-2 year experiment....because I think this move might be a disaster and the students will eventually be back where they belong under the trees on the Blvd.

Re-seating the boulevard oughta be just as popular as the Moody version. What a crock.

Heard from an SMU senior. Not looking forward to the Boulevard movement from Dallas Hall to the "concrete" in front of Dedman, near the stadium. Says it's a clear ploy to try to get students to go into the game. And you have to pay ($20; $10?) to get into the gated student area and be able to drink. This student may just go elsewhere and drink without paying a cover fee and standing around on concrete.

Maybe an exaggeration? I thought you always had to pay to get drinking access. Hopefully the student movement results in more attendance and more fans can fit on the main drag.

BTW, didn't the end zone student patio area go away?
