Here is today’s Press Release:

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - American Athletic Conference Commissioner Mike Aresco and ESPN Executive Vice President of Programming and Scheduling Burke Magnus have announced that The American and ESPN have reached agreement on a 12-year media rights extension beginning in 2020-21. ESPN has been the Conference’s principal media rights holder for football, men’s and women’s basketball and Olympic sports since the league’s reconstitution in 2013-14. Financial terms of the contract, which will run through 2031-32, were not disclosed.

We aren’t catching up to the P5 as much as leaving all the other conferences in the dust. P5, the AAC, and then way down the list everybody else.

The money is good, not great, but if ESPN helps push the P6 narrative and we get a good bowl for our Champ or runner-up (in the case of NY6 Bowl), then I'm very happy.

They will not use the term P6 but will help to differentiate from the rest

I think from a business aspect and our conference (for the most part) commitment to athletics could help us in the future take the PAC12s place. Call me crazy but if I remember Fox was losing a ton of money on the PAC12 deal due to not only timezone but also interest. I'm certainly not saying now but in 10 years who knows.

Interesting point.

In all honesty I don't think that is nearly as crazy as it might sound.

It's a good Conference.
Especially after slurpee University wins the national championship.

If the conference could just rid themselves of the bottom feeders
Tulane, East Carolina, and SMU , they May really have something .
