Ranking American FB Coaching jobs

"Ranking the jobs for every FBS conference is no easy task. After all, the rankings are subjective based upon numerous factors, but we have ranked every college football program in the country, based on the attractiveness of the position from a coaching perspective. We considered many factors — tradition, facilities, location, money, ability to recruit talent — but in the end, we simply asked ourselves the following question: Where would we want to coach?"

Although our ranking below may be appropriate during our last 3 decades, I sense that Sonny will raise our profile and performance and, as a result, move SMU into a Top 3 FB destinations in the AAC and beyond.

Most consecutive bowl appearances: 4 years - 2009 .. 2012

We had it. Coaches got disillusioned and quit on us. Hopefully Sonny can stay happy. That's almost all that matters.

June :D :) :(
Larry :D :) :(
Chad :D :) :(

Don't let it happen to Sonny.

Football priority #1, 2, 3, 4, and 5: Keep Sonny happy.

It's going to be interesting when SMU has to actually start paying Sonny real money instead of living off of the proceeds of a prior contract. When do his payments from Cal end? anybody know for sure?

We looked at that before but I can’t remember. Either way 2019 is the final year of his Cal contract. But then we get a 300% raise from the aac so hopefully it’s at least a wash.

I do not expect a winning season will move us into the top 3 as mentioned. As much as I hate to say it 'cougar high' has passed us and will continue to be a top AAC team in both major sports. Their admin. and BOT has made the commitment to ensure that they are successful and building a winning sports reputation so they will be at the top of the list when the next conference re-alignments happen. Meanwhile, our admin. and BOT is committed to building new fountains and ignoring the lack of success in our major sports programs.

You could argue we are too high considering 376 people are at home games

But all three left for "different" yet the same reasons IMO:
June, because of the terrible attendance and enthusiasm. Especially noticed in that home UCF game which we won (only time we beat them). Ego.
Larry, because a one-year contract offended him. Ego.
Chad, he was never going to stay here. Ego.
Am I wrong?
Sonny may be cut from a different cloth, hope so.

Let's hope that Sonny has a little more of the Gary Patterson loyalty trait than the others did.

I disagree with your assessment of Larry. Of course a Hall of Fame Coach wasn't taking a 1 year deal. He took us places SMU hasn't seen in years. He messed up but you still stick behind your coach and don't fold. See the majority of big program that has been accused of paying players or various scandals.

deu- totally agree with your comments regarding LB. IMO SMU really split their britches on that one.

SMU would rather be ranked #200 with no issues than be #10 and have an ncaa violation for a kid getting free fries at Whataburger.

I know Sonny and Gary well. Sonny has that loyalty bug that Gary has. SMU should be fine if they remain committed the program.
