Team dynamic

Postby leopold » Tue Jul 30, 2019 11:49 am

I'm curious to get people's opinions on the dynamic of a team that will largely be made up of transfers. Half the starters have transferred in, and it's starting to look like shades of 'Last Chance U'. Yes, that's a bit of an exaggeration, but I think you understand my point.

How do you get a team to gel quickly, and is there a risk in terms of trying to build a program made up largely of transfers?

We've been bad since before almost any student on campus was born. Any change is good change.

New players arrive every year from many different places whether transfers or not. Competition breeds better play. The transfers just provide immediate competition. Players that do not “gel” are not determined by transfers but rather personalities, and it is up to the coaches to see that the team attitude gels properly.

As long as there is a common goal it really doesn't matter how or when they came.

it's kinda like George Allen's Washington Redskin teams of the 1970s..."the future is now" thinking.
If they can play, and are better than what is coming in as freshmen, all the better. mrydel put it perfectly...competition breeds better play.

Just about 30 till kickoff...getting close!

Transferring is just like the recruiting process - you are looking for good players, as well as good fit.

You can be more lenient from a culture standpoint with frosh, because they can change and be driven by seniors.

Most transfers are upperclassmen and will be leaders when they arrive. They need to set a good example. Dykes has culture front of mind, he is weeding players out. We have a lot more players wanting to transfer in than who are actually getting accepted into the program.

QB is the only position where a transfer is locked and loaded and ready to start. That is the biggest risk, but by all accounts, he fits like a glove and is leading and setting a great example. At the other positions, if they don't fit they won't play.

So, not worried.

Players need to get used to this and adjust if they want to play in the NFL. It's a good thing!
