My wife and I are going to drive in for the game since it is the closest game to Cinci. For those of you who know Memphis, what hotels would you recommend that are semi close to Beale street and wont cause us financial ruin. Thanks.

Agree Peabody and if you can spare time from Beale Street then Rendesvous BBQ is more or less de rigueur. It won't make you forget Texas but its not bad and Jim Neely's Interstate might be a second choice for 'que.

Team will probably stay there too

Love the ribs at Rendevouz and Interstate, but would also highly recommend the original Central BBQ on Central Avenue about a mile from the Liberty Bowl. If you want steak instead, head to Folk’s Folly.

Re: Rendezvous, love the place not the ribs. They are not BBQ''d, but baby backs cooked Chicago style, boiled and then grilled over an open wood grill. Our average BBQ joint in Dallas produces much better ribs, which are smoked for 5-6 hours. These tend to be dry. But what a fun place with a wait staff that seem to have been there as long as the place has been opened. A lot of us ate there the Friday night before the Arkansas State game.

After driving back from Jonesborough, late Saturday night, ate ribs and catfish at the restaurant directly across from BB Kings on Beale Street. Really three restaurants in one: sports bar, diner and blues bar with live entertainment. I'm sorry I can't remember the name, but on Saturday nights Beale Street has a $5.00 cover and the line to pay and get in is over a block long. Instead walk from the Peabody ignore the line, just before going onto Beale, go left into the small sports bar, continue into the diner and walk through the restaurant to the Blues Club which sells $5.00 passes right as you enter the club from the diner. Stay in the club or exit directly onto Beale thus avoiding the line. Their ribs and fried catfish are better, but still not as good as we have here in Dallas.

Our waiter from the Rendezvous suggested this place.

Grew up in Memphis, still go home three times a year.

Central and Interstate Bar B Que are the best places to go.

The Peabody is everyone's favorite hotel but it may be a bit more expensive. Hu Hotel might be your better bet if you want high end, but it's Memphis so nothing will be outrageously expensive. The DoubleTree by Hilton would probably the cheapest of the chain hotels:

For sheer unadulterated cheek, though: https://www.big-cypress.com/lodging/?anchor=3&sub=12

Couple of other attractions:

If you want to take the wife out for a nice dinner that's a little different, Andrew MIchael has been featured in the NY Times and is a combination of Deep South and Italian. There is literally nothing else like it around: https://andrewmichaelitaliankitchen.com/

And the Bass Pro Shop, as mentioned above, is pure goofiness, unless you love camping.

The Radisson is right across the street from the Peabody and it’s nice and cheaper. You can enjoy the Peabody’s wonderful lobby bar for late night drinking and the stagger next door to sleep

I understand the Radisson has all 3 Mighty Ducks movies available On Demand so they can also claim they have Ducks at their hotel. Also, if the toilets clogged, janitor Emilio Estevez works the night shift and may be by with a plunger.

Interstate is in a sketchy neighborhood. A while back some cops on their way to a SWAT competition had weapons stolen from their SUVs. But good cue.

I believe Central has the best ribs in town. Barbecue Shop on Madison, a short cab ride from the downtown hotels, has a solid all around menu. Cozy Corner, near St. Jude, has the best barbecued poultry in town, its Cornish Game Hen is incredible. Go for lunch, it closes early. Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken is fabulous, and walking distance from the Peabody and Beale St.

For other hotel options, there's a Westin a block off Beale near the FedEx Forum and a Sheraton near the Bass Pro Shop, as well as Residence Inns, etc. scattered around downtown. Avoid hotels in the airport area at all costs.

Memphis in general is pretty much a sketchy neighborhood/city. No BBQ worth much there, and don’t let anybody try to sell you on Gus’ chicken. Mesquite Chop House down in Southaven is a good high end steak.
