I'm like the coach and players and really don't care at this point in the season. Just beat USF.

I agree. I just think it would be awesome to finally be in the Top 25!

I am pretty sure we were in the top 25 in 86.

Would love to see us get ranked at some point this season, but would definitely settle for a win over USF at this point. Go Ponies!

You are correct; ranked for a couple of weeks in ‘86, I believe.

No ranking this week is my guess, possibly not even in the first 5 RV. The negative bias is a lot to overcome.

Assume Wake and Ok State move up into the top 25 and we are right on the cusp.

The estimates should us in the 26-30 range. I'm not sure if we are going to get it even after Tulsa. I know its painful but we have to root for TCU. Houston demolished NTCC so that win is out. Arkie st isnt special from a ranking perspective. TX state is well you know. USF isnt going to do much either for us.

I fully expect to remain at 28. We need to make a statement win against Tulsa. Hopefully being 6-0 AND TCU beating Iowa state will be enough.

"SMU, at 5-0, could also crack the rankings this week after beating USF if Virginia falls out following its loss at Notre Dame. Arizona State should jump in the mix following its victory over previously 15th-ranked Cal. If voters take the Bears out, that would put SMU or Michigan State — perhaps Wake Forest — inside the Top 25. Nos. 25-21 will be the most interesting selections this week."

App State not getting enough respect. They beat UNC in Chapel Hill, something the # 1 Clemson Tigers had trouble doing

Valid point. There's a couple of teams that should be in the Top25 and some that are shouldn't be. Example: OSU and A&M. No PAC12 team except maybe Washington.

I looked at it like this: several of the lower-ranked teams would have to lose for SMU to make it in. I don't believe there were enough such losses to let that happen this week. It will be close and we might get to 25, but don't count on it.

Let me just pause to point out how incredible it is that we are FINALLY having this discussion.

Some facts:
The last time we were ranked was the last season before the DP. It was October 25, 1986 when we were 18th ranked and lost by 3 to Texas in Austin. We dropped out of the top 25 after that loss and haven't been back since.

This is the 3rd time we have won 5 straight games in a season since the DP. (1997 and 2011 being the previous two times) We have not won 6 straight games in a season since winning the last 6 games of the 1984 season. (the last being the Aloha bowl win over Notre Dame)

The selling points for this team and the top 25 would have to be the undefeated record and the fact we've scored 40+ in 4 straight games. We beat a top 25 team and dominated some weaker teams. Yesterday's score could have been more lopsided, but there was no point risking injury to key players keeping them in a blowout win. How long has it been since we could say that?

The downside to our story: only 2 of the teams we've beaten have winning records (TCU and Ark. St.) All 5 have a combined 11-12 record. If we don't get in this week, I am sure we will next week IF we beat Tulsa, the team that last beat us which kept us from being bowl-eligible last year.

25. Memphis (5-0, beat La. Monroe, 52-33)

24. SMU (6-0, beat Tulsa)

23. Washington (4-2, lost to Stanford, 23-13)

22. Iowa (4-1, lost to Michigan, 10-3)

21. Minnesota (5-0, beat Illinois, 40-17)

The word: A couple teams projected to jump into the rankings in Week 7 include Minnesota and Memphis, who both moved to 5-0 after convincing wins and were in the 'receiving votes' category heading into Saturday. Rodney Smith ran for a career-best 211 yards and a touchdown while Shannon Brooks added 111 rushing yards and a score to highlight Minnesota's ground game dominance vs. the Illini. Memphis handled Louisiana Monroe and moves to the forefront of the AAC following UCF's Friday night loss on the road vs. Cincinnati.
