Week 8 bowl projections

Postby CA Mustang » Sun Oct 20, 2019 4:15 pm

Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic
AT&T Stadium, Dallas
Dec. 28., noon, ESPN
Bonagura: SMU vs. Notre Dame
Schlabach: SMU vs. Georgia
https://www.espn.com/college-football/s ... rojections

Military Bowl Dec. 27
Annapolis, Md.
ACC vs. American
Miami (FL) vs. SMU
That projection assumes Memphis can beat SMU, which nobody has done to this point. The Mustangs ran their record to 7-0 with a 45-21 win over Temple. SMU visits Memphis on Nov. 2 to likely decide the AAC West and potentially a New Year's Six berth.

Ouch! Obviously expecting 3-4 losses to finish out the season with that forecast. We do have 3 tough road games coming up and Tulane will be no picnic

That prediction hasn't changed since week 2 or 3.

How many would we have to lose to not have to go to the Frisco Bowl?

The Frisco bowl would be like a dirty bathroom mop slap in the face.

If it doesn't have Palm trees I'll stay in my recliner. And please no Hawaii bowl tired of going out there.

Either one of those would be very exciting, but I'd rather save on airfare and spend it on my tickets to the Cotton Bowl, especially against Notre Dame. It could be the driving force to a future non-conference series.

Had we not moved from the Cotton Bowl, there never would have been a Pony Express and other SMU teams. Lorcker rooms alone were huge for recruiting. The antique Cotton Bowl lorcker rooms were nothing compared to the Dallas Cowboys' locker room. New recruits toured Texas Stadium and were shown a jersey with their name on it in the Dallas Cowboys' locker room. Nothing can beat that! Texas Stadium was a huge upgrade and invaluable in recruiting.

The worse thing we did was play in Ownby Stadium. Now that sucked. Moving back to the Cotton Bowl was OK until we got Ford.

Stadiums matter. I went to the Texas-Arkyland game in 1975 as Arkyland's guest recruit. They had just opened the 1st indoor practice facility in the north endzone of an otherwise enlarged high school stadium. and that is where they hosted the recruits. I can't tell you how impressive it was to a 17 y/o. And the game was impressive becasue of the full house, great crowd enthusiasm and good game. I would have sign the dotted line that day if offered.

With winning, we make a better presentation for recruiting. As much as I would like the gameday experience to be about me, the fan, its really about the team and recruiting as that is the lifeblood of successful teams.

I would love that Cotton Bowl. Save a day off from work, short drive and a chance to beat Notre Dame.

But let's see if we can beat UH first.

SMU beat TCU who beat Purdue who beat Vanderbilt who beat Missouri who beat South Carolina who beat Georgia who beat Notre Dame so really both those teams are beatable.
