It's been a seeming non-stop ad for SMU the last few days. So great

I encourage everyone interested in football strategy to watch that 1982 game.

What was most interesting was both teams lining up with a 7 man front defensively. Like right on the line, and everyone explodes up field. Try and give them nowhere to run, create the occasional negative play. And if the QB tries to drop back to pass, by the time they hit their plant foot, they just have to let it fly because they are about to get rocked.

It makes it clear how important the adoption of the shotgun was, because it allows you to get the ball out in max rush situations.

That combined with the 1980 win at Austin were the two single most enjoyable games I have every attended. More so than the Cotton Bowl vs. Pitt, but in retrospect it could be because the weather at the UT games was perfect and the CB was played in sleet.
