Buechele Named To CFPA Midseason Watch List

CHARLESTON, S.C. (CFPA/SMU) – Mustang Shane Buechele is one of 35 candidates from the Football Bowl Subdivision on the College Football Performance Award's Midseason Watch List for the CFPA National Performer of the Year, the organization announced.

In his first season on the Hilltop, the junior currently ranks sixth in single-season passing touchdowns for a Mustang with 23, and 12th with 2,781 passing yards.

He owns two of the top-five, single-game passing yard performances for a Mustang with 457 yards against Temple (4th) and 456 yards at Memphis (5th), which make him one of only two FBS players to register 450+ yards in multiple games this season. Buechele also has eight consecutive games with multiple passing touchdowns, tying him for second on SMU's program list.

Among career active FBS leaders, Buechele is eighth in completions per game (19.34), ninth in passing yards per game (231.8...), 14th in passing yards (7,417), 16th in completion percentage (.625) and 17th in touchdown passes (53).

Buechele is also a semifinalist for the Maxwell Award, which honors the collegiate player of the year, and a member of both the Manning Award and Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Watch Lists.

The award winner will be announced Jan. 15, 2020. The complete Watch List can be found here (PDF).
