I criticized our weak OOC schedule, but turns out those early wins and then the upset of TCU kept us in the national limelight for a long time. Lots of good press mentions for a change and confidence boosts for anyone thinking about signing with us. Sonny has shown that he knows something about community relations and is a master of the portal. He has never been a defensive genius, but my goodness we had some interesting and fun wins this year. We have a top flight quarterback who missed a couple of top receivers in November. Now let's beat Tulane and have fun at a bowl.

You placed this entire thread in the past tense with the season essentially being over. We still have 2 games remaining to make this a great season. I am not going to sit around commiserating about what might have been, but rather, what this season can still be if we tend to business. This urgency is critical for this season, but also, for recruiting, fund raising, national recognition, TV time...etc. To much is still at stake.

When you are winning every game gets more difficult. What Dykes and this coaching staff has done in the first two years...nobody expected. If they go 11-2 coach should be in the discussion for coach of the year. AND, next year expectations will be very high! And, the best college team in Texas. Congrats to all...let's finish !

We need to win the last two games so we can finish the season ranked in the AP Poll for the first time in 30+ seasons.

Whether it is football or basketball, record building gets attention. It sucks for the fans who have to sit through some bad games, but it is better for the program as a whole until you have reached that next level.

Give me a few ten win seasons with a team that is going to compete for the conference champ every year. Then I'll worry about making sure non-conference is good enough to take the G5 spot on NYD.

Has Alabama reached "that next level"?

Because in 2019 Bama scheduled:

New Mexico State and Western Carolina

Alabama had Louisville as their non-conference P5. Baylor is a better example to use. If they had a non-conference loss, nobody would have been talking about them early in the season. But they didn't. And sure, the conversations were around how bad the non-conference schedule was, but at the end of the day they got a ton of publicity and double-digit wins is a huge boost for that program moving forward.

I really like the structure of this season's OOC schedule. Play TCU and UNT every year for bragging rights, then throw 'sure fire' wins (because you certainly can't count on beating TCU every year - usually a loss to them won't hurt much but a win is big). Play Texas State and some other cupcake to fill out the OOC. For now for the next few years anyway. Or a lower tier P5 that isn't all that great (I think Vandy was put on the schedule in the future there) ...
