First Down Measurements

Postby docabel » Sat Nov 23, 2019 9:42 pm

Came up when Turner Coxe stood Perry up deep in their end in first half short of the first down, yet the refs were magically able to tell he had clearly (not) made the line to gain without even a glance at the sticks, nor a measurement.

Has anyone else noticed how rarely the chains are brought out this year for a first down measurement?

I can barely think of more than a couple chain measurements all season in SMU games.

This is not unique to SMU as it has the same in other college games as well as the NFL.

Anyone with any insight to this?

We didn't think he made it. It looked like he ran into a brick wall when he ran into Coxe.

I commented on game thread, qb clearly was 1/2 yard short. The announcers kept agreeing with call but they were looking at terrible camera angles. But the original live play clearly showed he was 2 feet short. I replayed it many times, all the while I was cussing at the officials. Navy scores a field goal on drive, but more importantly, SMU should have had first down at Navy 22. And SMU lost the challenge and timeout.
Huge missed call.
Official corruption is the only explanation.
