Exactly. Obviously we all love SMU and are enjoying our best season in over a generation, but there are a ton of non-P5 teams with great seasons this year: Memphis (11-1) Boise State (11-1) App State (11-1) Cincinnati (10-2) SMU (10-2) Navy (9-2 - could be 10-2) Air Force (10-2) Louisiana-Lafayette (10-2) Plus Central Florida, four C-USA schools, and San Diego State all at 9-3. They aren't all "going to get a shot at the big boys" no matter how great their seasons have been, which is why I still won't be a bit surprised if we end up in a bowl like Frisco playing a .500 MAC team.

No one is claiming they belong in the CFP/NY6. But 10-2 in the AAC doesn't equal 6-6 in CUSA/MAC.

My hope for SMU is to get the Independence Vs an ACC team. It’s a name opponent, a likely win, and driveable.

Tell me how a crappy MWC team that lost to freak BYU gets a P5 opponent and we possibly get stuck with 6-6 Ohio... Plus Central Florida, four C-USA schools, and San Diego State all at 9-3. If you want to be Machiavellian about it, we don’t deserve any more than what bowl committees give us. But, yeah, I’d say a team that spent two thirds of the regular season ranked — and who is now one spot outside the Top 25 — who’s having an historically significant season after 30 years between hell and purgatory, who lost once each AT two currently ranked teams in highly competitive games deserves a little love when it comes time for bowl selection.

Remember the SMU mantra. If the powers that be in the NCAA have the power to screw us, they will. So, let's make lemonade out of lemons. If we play Florida Atlantic or Ohio, let's have a 50 point half time lead so ESPN sees tv's clicking off.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

I'm hoping for the Texas Bowl as it is a bigger bowl with a better payout but Independence Bowl is a close second. It pays better than all the smaller bowls, is drivable for most SMU fans, and has the cheapest tickets I've seen for any bowl game.

It's not that, it the bowl agreement they signed. In some ways, the MW gets the shaft as their 12-1/11-2 conference champion gets to face a 6-6 Pac-12 team unhappy with their season.

I do think we will be the 5th best option the AAC has to offer (better than Temple and Tulane, but behind the rest of our bowl eligible teams). I think Tulane goes to Frisco and SMU ends up in one of the Florida games, but I agree with others that it would be nice to get either the Texas Bowl or Shreveport. From a "rewarding the players, coaches and staff" standpoint, Hawaii would probably top their list.

SMU will fill Shreveport in a way that no other AAC option will (including Tulane). Our AD and our President and Aresco and anyone else at SMU with relationships that matter had better be making this point, strongly.
