Why did anyone think a power conference was going to give up a $6M payout so we could play in the Texas Bowl?

Exactly! The Big 12 and SEC had enough teams, so why would the bowl organizers push at least one conference away to invite SMU?

People were probably speculating that there wouldn't be enough teams. Put one more SEC team in the playoff and/or NY6, and there's one more bowl needing a non-SEC, non-P5 team.

No one was able to predict the Ole Miss player peeing like a dog in the endzone which allowed Miss St to win and become bowl eligible at 6-6?

Pretty sure that is still the case. Does UConn get a cut this year?

Our cut from the Cotton Bowl game, thanks Memphis.

New Year's Six Bowl Game Payouts
— Each conference gets $300,000 for each school that meets the NCAA's academic performance review (APR) for participation in a postseason bowl; FBS Independents like Notre Dame also receive the same amount.
