New? They have been talking about that for over two months.

No, they haven't.

Previous studies indicated that the virus itself is not as transmittable in heat and humidity. It doesn't last as long in those environments and the humidity impacts how long a water droplet stays in the air. The impact of that effect reduces the transmission rate from 3.4 to 2.0. Still higher than the flu at peak season (1.7), but not nearly as bad as what it was.

The new data is that the body itself does not absorb the virus when the heat and humidity are higher. This is a much bigger deal, with a much, much bigger impact. This reduces the impact of being outside quite significantly in warm weather.

Also, pay attention to what is happening in Israel right now. They opened the economy, no big deal. But then they kids go back to school - lots of people in air conditioning - they are seeing breakouts in the schools. Now having to consider shutting the schools back down. Luckily, they have the amount of testing with a small population to jump on things early. But I would hope people start running experiments of what happens when you have groups of people inside, but the environmental controls are set to 85 degrees or so.

no one really knows how the heat will affect the virus this summer.
Oxford university is very close to developing a vaccine that may be ready as early as September. that is very exciting and would be a godsend.
in the meantime keep practicing social distancing, wear a face mask and do some disinfecting of surfaces.
