From the American Athletic Conference:

American Athletic Conference Football Summer Kickoff and Media Days will not be held as scheduled in 2020

The American’s preseason event will be held virtually on a date to be determined

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Commissioner Mike Aresco has announced that the American Athletic Conference Summer Kickoff and Media Days will not be held as scheduled in 2020.

The American Summer Kickoff had been scheduled from July 12-14 in Newport, Rhode Island, but continued concerns for the well-being of the conference’s student-athletes, coaches, staff members and invited guests prompted a change in format.

A virtual version of the 2020 Summer Kickoff will be held on a date to be determined.

When you organize large events like that, you start working on it 3 monht in advance. I'm sure they waited as long as they could and then cancelled because they aren't able to plan anything out.

I'm also sure they didn't want to sign contracts in advance and start paying money when there is no guarantee that the event will actually take place. It is a smart financial decision.

Nice easy way for the conference to save some money too.

This would have been the last one in New England, right?

It'll be interesting to when the P5 conferences as well as CUSA, Sunbelt and MAC conferences follow the MAC, MWC and AAC's lead with regards to this.
