Open in incognito window. I turned off ad block and it still didn't show but when I used incognito it worked.

I don't subscribe and I could open with no prob.

That TCU story is heartbreaking. I don't remember where, but I read a longer version of it that expands on this one. That that touchdown return was run out of anger and spite--man. I cannot imagine what his lived experience was. Thank god the athletic department screened his mail (another detail I recall from that other article, a few years ago).

Levias is a good man. Wish I'd been able to see him play

He is the single player that got me hooked on SMU football. Coming from Vanderbilt, I've never seen anyone so exciting on the field! That first year, must have been his sophomore year, SMU won the SWC on what seemed like every game's last minute heroics. I doubt we would have had a winning season without him. These were the days when maybe one or two games were televised, but the local channels began running and updating banners during their programing to report the progress of SMU on Saturday and Saturday nights.
I always imagined a statue of him and Hayden on the opposite side (BLVD side) of Doak's statue. I believe there is a picture in one of the yearbooks of Hayden, with his arm on Jerry's shoulder getting ready to send him in, I can only imagine, Hayden was saying something to the effect of "prove them wrong!"
That TCU game was worse than publicized. If I recall there were multiple death threats from the Frog fans and he had a special security detail for the game. Even today when talking to Jerry, he still has that "bitterness" that can only come from an experience like that. The worst was his experience as a student, where he felt he was alone.

Sadly he paid the price of being a leader.

Lou Holtz once said that before a game he looked over and saw LeVias jumping up and down in practice and knew any team SMU played was in trouble.

The Mustang band had his back all the way if I recall. Hubba Jerry.
