Robert Pop-a-Lick Popelka was my teammate so I have to vote for him. Hopkins was fun to watch also.

I was a big fan of Carey Brabham.
Still can't believe he made the NFL.

I loved Popelka and always thought he pioneered concussions (remember him staggering off the filed a few times after "popping a lick"), but have to go with Hopkins who just seemed to get better year after year through both his collegiate and professional careers.

Popelka, remember seeing him play while I was in school, and on the Bob Hope special where Bob
introduced all the college All Americas.

What about Jerry Norton - was all conference safety at SMU as well as a outstanding running back- drafted by the Eagles was named all-pro at safety in the NFL for 5 straight years and led the league one year with a 45.5 yard average - finished his career as a Cowboy and was a starting safety that last year

I have seen most of them since the late 40s and the best was Val Jo Walker.
