I think he was easily a better coach than June Jones and Chad Morris. Take a look at what Chad did in SEC at Arky - how would he have done at SMU in the SWC coming off the DP?

Rossley had to compete in the SWC and had A&M, UT, TT, Baylor on schedule - there was never an easy game. Some of the more recent coaches got to compete in the WAC, CUSA, etc.

Rossley's non conference games were against Pac 10, Big 8, ACC, SEC teams - I recall UCLA, Arkansas, Wisconsin, Vanderbilt, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Mizzou and others on the schedule. And we were in just about every one of those games into the 4thQ, when we would always run out of gas.

At the same time, he led us into the WAC and did not capitalize on beating up on inferior competition.

Rossley only got one crack at that WAC schedule and went 4-4 with losses to #17 Wyoming, and very strong BYU and Utah teams. The team played in front of a very empty cotton bowl all year.

Beating Arkansas and TCU was great, but the inexcusable loss to Missouri is what likely got him fired - lost by one and missed more than one XP and short FG. Could have gone to a bowl that year.

While I did not want to relive that Mizzou game, I just looked it up - worse than I even remembered...

It wasn’t a night Southern Methodist’s Daniel Hernandez will want to remember.

After previously missing a 37-yard field goal attempt and having two extra point tries blocked, the Mustang kicker hit the right upright with his 35-yard try as time expired Saturday night. That allowed Missouri to escape with a 27-26 victory.

SMU quarterback Ramon Flanagin had scrambled for 21 yards to the Missouri 17 with 1:19 to play to set up the potential winning kick.

Missouri nose tackle Donnell Jones who charged through to block Hernandez’s extra-point attempts. The first resulted in two points when Clayton Baker picked up the ball and ran all the way to the opposite end zone.

It cut the deficit to 6-2 just 3 1/2 minutes into the contest.

The second block came with 7:02 to play, after Flanagin scored his second touchdown of the fourth quarter to cut a 27-13 deficit to a point.

Misses belong to the kicker and/or holder, but blocked extra points go to the protection, not Hernandez.
