Roberson Jr. Named Phil Steele Preseason All-American
Ten Mustangs Named To Preseason All-Conference Teams

CLEVELAND (Phil Steele/SMU) – Reggie Roberson, Jr. headlined a group of 10 Mustangs honored by Phil Steele's Magazine, earning a spot on the 2020 Preseason All-America Third Team.

Roberson Jr., Shane Buechele, Kylen Granson, Jaylon Thomas and Richard McBryde were also honored as All-American Athletic Conference first-team selections by the outlet. Danny Gray, Beau Morris, Turner Coxe, Trevor Denbow and Brandon Stephens were recognized as well.

All-America / First-Team All-AAC
Reggie Roberson, Jr. | WR | SR | DeSoto, Texas
Roberson Jr. started the Mustangs' first eight games of 2019 before being sidelined with an injury, and finished second on the team with 43 receptions for 803 yards and added six touchdowns. The wide receiver had a career-high 250 receiving yards, which ties for second in a game at SMU, and three receiving TDs, tied for third, in the win over Temple.

Roberson Jr. was a member of the Biletnikoff and Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Watch Lists.

First-Team All-AAC
Shane Buechele | QB | SR | Arlington, Texas
Davey O'Brien Award Watch List member Buechele threw for 3,929 yards and 34 touchdowns in 2019, both SMU records. His passing TD total, passing yards per game (302.2) and points responsible for (222) all led the league. Buechele posted three games of 400+ yards and registered 4,034 yards of total offense, which ranks second in a season for a Mustang.

Buechele was also a first-team all-AAC selection, a finalist for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, a semifinalist for the Maxwell and Davey O'Brien Awards and a member of the Manning Award Watch List.

Kylen Granson | TE | SR | Austin, Texas
In his first season with the Mustangs, Granson earned second-team all-AAC honors after setting the SMU mark for touchdowns by a tight end with nine in 2019, including a string of four games straight from Oct. 19 through Nov. 9. He registered 721 yards off 43 receptions, which included a 138-yard, three-TD outing against ECU on Nov. 9.

Jaylon Thomas | OL | JR | Lubbock, Texas
Thomas started all 13 games in 2019, blocking for an offense that ranked seventh nationally in scoring offense (41.8), ninth in total offense (489.8) and 13th in passing offense (309.0). In the Mustangs' game at Memphis, Thomas rushed for a two-point conversion. He picked up second-team all-AAC honors following the season.

Richard McBryde | LB | SR | Troy, Ala.
McBryde led the Mustangs with 98 tackles (69 solo) in 2019, after taking over the starting linebacker spot four games into the season. He posted 9.5 TFLs for 36 yards, including 3.5 sacks for 23 yards, and added a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, two QB hurries and a pass breakup.

Third-Team All-AAC
Turner Coxe | DE | JR | Dallas
Coxe led the Mustangs with three forced fumbles in 2019, which tied for second in the AAC. Overall, he registered 50 tackles (33 solo), including 8.5 TFLs for 32 yards and 3.5 sacks for 18 yards. Coxe also added three QB hurries and one pass breakup.

Trevor Denbow | S | SR | Corsicana, Texas
Denbow registered 64 tackles, including a pair of TFLs and a half sack in 2019. He also added four pass breakups and a forced fumble. Also serving as the Mustangs' primary punter, Denbow punted 43 times for 1,662 yards with a long of 72 yards, three touchbacks, eight inside the 20 and six of 50+.

Fourth-Team All-AAC
Danny Gray | WR | JR | Dallas
Gray comes to the Hilltop from Blinn College. As a sophomore in 2019, he led the team with 54 receptions for 877 yards and eight touchdowns, and had three kick returns for 73 yards and one punt return for 10. Gray totaled 958 all-purpose yards.

He earned first-team honors from the Southwest Junior College Football Conference.

Beau Morris | OL | SR | Baton Rouge, La.
Morris played in all 13 games, making 12 starts in 2019, and blocked for an offense that ranked seventh nationally in scoring offense (41.8), ninth in total offense (489.8) and 13th in passing offense (309.0).

Brandon Stephens | DB | SR | Plano, Texas
In his first season on the Hilltop, Stephens started all 13 games on defense after making the transition from running back. He registered 49 tackles, including 2.5 TFLs, and led the team with 12 pass breakups, which ranked second in the conference.
