Thomas Named To Outland Trophy Watch List

DALLAS (FWAA/SMU) – SMU's Jaylon Thomas is among 85 interior linemen named to the preseason watch list for the Outland Trophy, the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) announced today.

An All-American Athletic Conference Second-Team selection in 2019, Thomas started all 13 games for the Mustangs, blocking for an offense that ranked seventh nationally in scoring offense (41.8), ninth in total offense (489.8) and 13th in passing offense (309.0). Thomas also rushed for a two-point conversion at Memphis.

The Mustang offense set program records for scoring average (41.8), scoring (544), total offense (6,368), yards per game (489.8), plays (1,037), touchdowns (73), rushing TDs (35) and first downs (322).

Thomas has already been named to preseason all-conference teams by Phil Steele's Magazine, College Football News and Athlon Sports and is a member of Dave Campbell's Texas Football All-Texas College Team.

The recipient of the 75th Outland Trophy will be announced in early December. The official presentation to the winner will be made in Omaha, Neb., at the Outland Trophy Awards Dinner sponsored by Werner Enterprises and produced by the Greater Omaha Sports Committee, scheduled for Jan. 13, 2021.
