What an ugly story. Will be interesting to see what Patterson says. The framing of this--that he was allegedly quoting a Black player's use of the N-word--is really going to hit some fault lines.

Apparently he repeated the word asking a particular player not to use the word in team meetings. Not ok, but not the big story it appeared to be.

What an idiot. You would think he would know better but maybe not.

There is no excuse for this!

Can't believe I could possibly be defending that guy, but it seems from reading this that Patterson was telling the player not to use the n word.

It appears to have gone something like this:

1. Player One to Player Two: "Hey, n*****, you need to get a better jump on that ball if you're gonna intercept it."

2. Patterson tells Player One: "Don't say n***** in our facilities. It's offensive"

3. Player One calls out his coach for using a racial slur.

Yes, that’s what he did.

No, that’s not as bad as using it in other ways.

But it’s NEVER ok for him or any other white man to use it. Never. He had to have known that.

It’s not ok for any man to use it. Or woman. Regardless of color.

It was so offensive that it took the player 2 years after leaving school to make it public. I’m no Patterson fan, and no he should not have repeated the word, but this is maybe deserving of a slap on the wrist at most.

This is a ridiculous statement. Patterson was correct to use the word if he was telling a player to not say that word. He would have been wrong to not say something. Adults should be able to understand context and intent

Thanks for your opinion! TCU ultra-apologist Mac Engel disagrees with you. So does Kevin Sherrington. And so does ... Gary Patterson.

This story is gaining legs and is a pretty big deal nationally now. Many frog fans do not see Patterson surviving this, I think he will have to be removed. This a recruiting killer for TCU and they stand to lose millions over this in many different areas.

Bottom line, he is going to have to go, at this point it does not matter whether anyone thinks he was right or wrong.
