Buechele Named CFPA National Performer Of The Week

CHARLESTON, S.C. (CFPA/SMU) – Quarterback Shane Buechele was named the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) National Performer of the Week after leading SMU to a 65-35 victory at North Texas Saturday.

Buechele went 24-for-33 for 344 yards and four touchdowns, while adding 29 yards on the ground and a rushing TD.

He has multiple passing touchdowns in 12 of the past 14 games and the 300-yard game was Buechele's seventh at SMU and ninth overall. The four passing TDs puts his career total at 69, with 39 coming as a Mustang.

Buechele was one of 30 players named to the CFPA National Performer of the Year Trophy Watch List to start the season. It is the second consecutive season on the list for the quarterback.

Buechele has also been named to the Maxwell, Manning, Davey O'Brien, Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award and Wuerffel Trophy Watch Lists. He was also selected as CBS Sports' No. 1 player in the conference heading into the 2020 season, and the top quarterback in the state of Texas by Dave Campbell's Texas Football. Athlon Sports, Dave Campbell's, College Football News and Phil Steele's Magazine have named him a preseason first-team all-conference selection.

CFPA Week 3 Honorable Mention
D'Eriq King – QB – Miami
Trevor Lawrence – QB – Clemson
Malik Willis – QB – Liberty

The Mustangs host Stephen F. Austin Saturday in their home opener. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m. on ESPN+.

It was great to see Shane bounce back and have a huge game.

Performances like this will get him back in the conversation for some of the national QB awards and possibly could even generate some Heisman consideration.

Unless he disguises himself as new recruit, Bane Shuechele, then no.

His 4 years of eligibility are up this year.

So he's on his way for a 7 year career ala Ramon Flanagan.

If you are not a pro prospect it's all about graduate degree(s). Hard to tell where Buechele falls

SMU won't risk losing Preston Stone. Shane will be done this year.

Alternatively, a year of learning under Shane would set Preston up for a 3-4 year run the likes of which are rarely seen.

Any young quarterback can learn a lot from a player like Buechele
