Buechele, Naggar Named Conference Players Of The Week
Reggie Roberson, Jr., Named To Weekly Honor Roll

IRVING, Texas (The American/SMU) – Shane Buechele was named Offensive Player of the Week and Chris Naggar picked up Special Teams Player of the Week accolades, as American Athletic Conference officials announced league honors Monday. Reggie Roberson, Jr., was also named to the Weekly Honor Roll.

Buechele was 32-for-45 passing with a career-high 474 yards and three touchdowns in the 30-27 win over No. 25/24 Memphis on Saturday. His 474 passing yards were the third most in a game at SMU, while his 501 yards of total offense was second for a Mustang.

The game was Buechele's 10th career 300-yard game and fourth 400-yard game, and he has thrown multiple TD passes in 14 of the past 16 games. The 70- and 85-yard touchdown passes to Roberson, Jr., were his eighth and ninth 50-plus TD passes at SMU.

Naggar picked up his third special teams player of the week accolades, sharing the honor with Tulsa's Lachlan Wilson.

Naggar was 3-for-3 on field goals, including the game-winner from 43 yards with nine seconds left in the fourth quarter. He was also 3-for-3 on PATs, added four touchbacks off seven kickoffs for 455 yards and four punts for 183 yards with two inside the 20 and two of 50-plus.

He is 7-for-7 on the season for field goals and has 20 touchbacks on 30 kickoffs.

Naggar was also named a Lou Groza National Collegiate Place Kicker Award Star of the Week.

Roberson, Jr., was named to the honor roll after registering five catches for 246 yards and two TDs. It was the third best single-game receiving total in program history.

He now has nine 100-yard games and four multi-TD games, and his 17 career touchdowns place him tied for eighth on SMU's program list. The 70- and 85-yard catches were his fifth and sixth of at least 50 yards as a Mustang.

After Saturday's win over Memphis, the Mustangs entered the AP poll at No. 18.

Following an off week, SMU travels to Tulane for a Friday night match-up on Oct. 16 at 5 p.m. CT on ESPN.

Naggar is the biggest impact player this year. From being a special teams laughing stock to the best in the conference in one year is a fantastic turn around! Kicker/punter needs to be seen as a skill position. Let's not forget to recruit this position in the future (or make sure tu continues to act as our minor league farm club).

Both earned it. Big game with big performaces. And yes, Naggar is the team MVP to date. He has the biggest single player impact on the teams success so far.
