Buechele Awarded Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Of The Week Honors

FORT WORTH, Texas (SMU) – Mustang Shane Buechele was named the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback of the Week after leading the Mustangs to a 30-27 win over No. 25 Memphis Saturday, the Davey O'Brien Foundation announced today.

The career day also earned the quarterback American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors, Honorable Mention accolades from the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award and a Manning Award Star of the Week nod.

Buechele registered a career-high 474 passing yards off 32 completions and added three touchdowns in the victory. His 474 passing yards were the third most in a game at SMU, while his career-best 501 yards of total offense were second for a Mustang.

The game was Buechele's 10th career 300-yard game and fourth 400-yard game, and he has thrown multiple TD passes in 14 of the past 16 games. The 70- and 85-yard touchdown passes to Reggie Roberson, Jr., were his eighth and ninth 50-plus TD passes at SMU.

Buechele was one of 30 quarterbacks named to the initial preseason Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award Watch List announced in July. The award is presented annually to the nation's best college quarterback and is the oldest and most prestigious national quarterback award. Buechele was a semifinalist for the award in 2019.

He is also on the Maxwell Award, Manning Award, Wuerffel Trophy, CFPA and Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Watch Lists.

The No. 18 Mustangs return to action Friday, Oct. 16 against Tulane at 5 p.m. CT on ESPN.
