Our team has zero pride

Postby Texasscout96 » Sat Nov 14, 2020 10:45 pm

Thank God I didn’t pay money to see this team play.

Wow!

Brutal loss. I'm embarrassed by this team. We'll lose to Houston to cement our yearly late season collapse. Did Jankovich take over SMU football?

Pride isn't the issue, we are a very soft team, with a very soft offensive game plan!

Play calling always looks bad when the execution is terrible.

On both offense, and defense!
May the forth be with us.

I saw something a bit different...

Poor, REALLY poor play calling. Two outside slants on 3rd and 4rth down attempts, neither of which had a chance for a first down. If you are scared to make the calls, try SOMETHING else that can reach 8 yards. THAT is on the coaches, primarily on the OC

Defense competed... at least through the first half. The offense not FINISHING drives in the 2nd half eventually put the defense in one too many long-drive scenarios that Tulsa took advantage of.

Our coaching staff did not adjust at the half...opposing staffs are making adjustments, and we need to have contingencies for those changes. The 3-5-3 defensive scheme Tulsa tightened to take away the middle routes means either running outside, or throwing deeper routes outside. Neither happened.

Finally, Bue reached the limit Saturday. With injuries and others missing time, he took a bigger bite out of the responsibility pie. Watching him storm off to the sideline after the final interception, you could see the frustration and anger, and the knowledge that "all given is not enough". Time for some others to step up.

We had them...we let them finish us. That is on our coaches and our team. But it is less effort and heart, and I think more on just complacency. That is equally deadly.

We won't have to wait long to see if this team has pride. Let's see if they can bounce back and play well vs Houston or they fold. Given the opportunity, Houston will run it up against SMU and "Dallas" (I assume our guys will be wearing the Dallas jerseys)

We thought about going to Tulsa, glad we didn't waste our time, and money.

Pride has nothing to do with it.

This is what happens when your OL isn't at a high enough level. In perfect weather, with enough playmakers, and against weak defenses, it can be overcome. But you need the OL to perform against good teams when it isn't ideal conditions to throw the ball. Ours is not playing at a high enough level.

Yes. There are certainly reasons something less than a first down on third down still helps you, as far as improving field position and such. But the fourth and long call near the end made no sense since it had no chance to get the first down even if successful. I'm not even sure what Dykes' defense of it would be. The only things I can think of are that they were positive Tulsa would be in a different defense, or Buechele was supposed to read the other side of the field where it appeared Granson was running a deep enough route.

Granson was open on the play for a TD, or at least a first down.

We all saw it on TV but Buechele never looked his direction and was looking to get rid of the ball quickly as he had been the entire 4th quarter

I also think the safety left Granson after SB made the quick decision.
