Naggar Named Semifinalist For Lou Groza National Collegiate Place-Kicker Award

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (SMU) – Chris Naggar is one of 20 semifinalists for the Lou Groza National Place-Kicker Award, as announced by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission Monday.

Naggar has been named the American Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the week four times during the 2020 season. In back-to-back weeks (at Tulane, & vs. No. 25/24 Memphis), Naggar hit game-winning field goals to keep the Mustangs undefeated.

Following the win over Memphis, he was named one of three Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award Stars of the Week.

Naggar is 17-for-21 on the season on field goals and 43-of-46 on PATs. His 17 field goals tie for fifth in a season at SMU and is one behind the program record.

He ranks ninth nationally in total points scored at 94 and 12th in field goals per game at 1.70, and he leads the conference in both.

Naggar is one of five on the list to have made at least 15 field goals while connecting at a rate better than 80%.

He was also a member of the Ray Guy Award Watch List.

All kickers who played in at least six games and attempted 10 field goals through games of Week 14 were eligible for the award.

Semifinalists will be voted on by a panel of more than 100 FBS head coaches, SIDs, media members, former Groza finalists, and current NFL kickers to select the three finalists. These finalists will be announced on December 22nd and honored at the 29th annual Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Awards Virtual Awards Celebration, streamed live on January 4th on lougrozaaward.com. The same panel then selects the winner, who will be announced live on ESPN at the Home Depot College Football Awards Show on Thursday, January 7th.
